As you make your way south from Anchorage, you will pass the opportunity to take the Longest Highway Tunnel in the United States to a small town called Whittier. They call this town, "The town under one roof" because most of it's residents live in the same building, the Begich Towers. There is hiking, fishing and a ton of tours going out of this town so we recommend you don't miss it. On you way to this historic, little town make sure to stop by Girdwood for the great food, hiking and outdoor recreation too.
Girdwood is a top tier ski destination in the winter and has a ton of hiking and mountain biking in the summer. The Bake Shop has great food there too and you won't want to miss it. We LOVED exploring this part of Alaska!

In the past, you had to drive your car onto a RR flatbed and sit in it before they opened it to self driving.

Great videio/views!! Glad your pups got to play in snow. Ours love snow/winter. Were there any cruise ships in port when you were in Whittier? I find it to be a very interesting place considering how small it is. I saw a video where the vlogger was given access to the appartment complex and he interviewed a number of the residents. They said some of the captains of the cruise ships stay in an apartment in the building while they are docked there. The tunnel is also closed over night with no access for cars or trains.

Thank you! We didn’t see any cruise ships unfortunately but the harbor was still very cool :) that’s so awesome about the local we would have loved to check out the apartment!
