For years I thought this film only played at arthouses because it was a low budget indie movie. It wasn't until just now that I realized it actually had a proper budget; it's just that one of the worst producers in Hollywood assumed Americans are too dumb to appreciate anything remotely introspective.

@@guyofminimalimportance7 Yeah this movie is a lot of things, but introspective is hardly one of them, it's focus is very much on societal issues and character interrelationships rather than the interior psychology of the characters. It's not a secret anymore that Harvey Weinstein is actually completely insane. Just look at his treatment of directors and their movies, his advertising strategies or especially how he handles movie productions. We're talking about the man who turned "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof" into two separated movies because "Grindhouse" flopped at the box office. Anyways, Snowpiercer? Great movie. Definitely one of the most original movies i've seen in years. I didn't know it was based on a comic.

The fact that Curtis ate the baby made the movie so much better He was literally looked down upon by everyone in the tail section, meaning he went from LITERALLY the worst human alive, to the only other man who managed to go to the engine. from the back of the train, to the very front. At first I wasn't a fan of Evan's performance because I felt that he was just playing Post-Avengers Captain America again, but on reflection he was doing the opposite. He was playing a formerly dark and violent individual who was trying to be a force for good. He did a great job at playing a cynical guy who was still determined to do the right thing.

***** Actually, you're thinking of Isaac Perlmutter, not Feige, who was responsible for the Killain not being a woman thing. Of course, Perlmutter has a bunch of other nasty shit on his belt but you can look up that stuff for yourself. You forgot about some of Rothman's other crimes, like what happened to Daredevil and Kingdom of Heaven (the latter of which was especially egregious and sabotaged what could have been one of their biggest hits). And as of late, Kevin Tsujihara of Warner Brothers has been making bone head choices for their films, if the responses of BVS and Suicide Squad have been any indication.

I feel like I said this before, but this movie was a great opportunity for Chris Evans to show he can actually act if given a decent script and the chance to work with a good director. He's pretty but he can be more than pretty, and we honestly need a lot more people in the movie industry who are in movies for more than their looks. And this is also proof you can do great sci fi with little more than a good story.

Snowpiercer is a refreshing take on action combined with brainy storytelling. It's not convoluted pretentious bullshit, just a simple allegory of how humans organize themselves in almost always the same manner regardless of circumstance, and how that structure innevitably falters under the strain of injustice birthed by innequality. The human spirit can't be confined nor does it accept a preset path forever. I thought it was one of Chris Evan's best performances and proof that he has the chops to do more than look pretty in movies. John Hurt was as good as ever and Tilda Swinton is just so unique I don't think anyone else could make that character work. I loved this movie and really apreciate how it doesn't follow traditional Hollywood format. We need more like it.

I hope Snowpiercer brought more attention to Bong Joon-ho in the West, particularly his films Memories of Murder (2003) and Mother (2009). Most cinephiles I know who follow international film only know much about European dramas (e.g. French New Wave films) or Japanese anime. Not much love for Korean cinema, despite how strong that national stable has become, and don't even get me started on the lack of love for South Asian (especially Bollywood) cinema...

Asia has produced some of the best films to pass the event horizon of my eyeballs in the last 20 years. i jus recommended The Chaser in a thread elsewhere on here as it's still hands down the best thriller i've seen in my adult years... and i'm 46. Memories of Murder is also up there as a pure cinema experience. It seems to me that Asian cinema doesn't suffer from the "All controlling bean counters / Guardians of the Status Quo" Psychos that rule Hollywood. Actual cinematic art still thrives over there.

I think you're going a little too far in the other direction. To quote Quentin Tarantino: "I'm not a Hollywood basher because enough good movies come out of the Hollywood system every year to justify its existence, without any apologies." Actual cinematic art still thrives everywhere, you just have to keep an eye out for it. That's the point of my original comment. And besides, if you praise 'Asian cinema' while still neglecting South Asia, namely Bollywood and associated Indian film, your neglecting the largest national film stable on the planet.

One of the best shows in all of YT thank you for all your awesome content!! Hope YT isn't screwing you over too! Have you ever seen the 2011 movie Detention? It would be awesome to see an Exploring for that one. It is a very unique (and sorta divisive) horror(ish) movie that could use more exposure. It's kind of like Scream meets Scott Pilgrim meets The Breakfast Club meets Back to the Future.... or something like that, you would love it!

Of course it was understood in in Iowa and Oklahoma. I'm from Iowa, and I thought it was a great movie, jeez!

I understood the fish in another way. The fish is also an symbol from the church. So when they where about to slay each other and the fish literally was between them before the fight totally made sense for me in the symbolism of the film. Sry for my bad English.

They sure deserve your keen eye, good sir. While we are in the Korean realms of film... how about the criminally ignored The Chaser ? The best thriller i've seen this century..and beats a lot of last centuries too !

Wow, never knew the fish blood was poisonous, I just figured dipping their axes in it was a terror tactic. And am I the only person who wasn't horrified by the revelation that the protein blocks were made of roaches? Given the situation I just assumed this was the case already before they revealed it.

There is no original cut, the director refused to let his film be released as a cut version. Hence why it got a very limited release in the US.

There was one badly though part of the movie. When he saw the cockroaches being made into protein bars he was disgusted and enranged and we later find out they were eating human babies before the protein bars were created ... they could have toned down his emotion as this was obviously the lesser evil.

daimitoziartefakt That reaction took me out of the movie for a bit... I mean, a simple "Well, that makes sense" would be a more believable reaction.

Yeah I mean its hardly the worst thing to be eating and in actuality could be the future of food (if we don't fuckin fix our planet and localize farming), but bugs, most likely roaches are full of proteins, vitamins and minerals on par with fish.

I would be less disgusted if it was made with species other than cockroaches. Sure, eating human flesh is more, if not less repulsive than eating roaches in real life, but it doesn't mean one would be cool seing those disgusting vermins grinded into bars. It's a matter of fact that most people (especially women)are terrified whenever they spot one in their homes
