Interesting. Thank you for sharing. Captain Storey was born in 1828 in Georgia. Prior to moving to California in 1852, he served time as a Texas Ranger and also served during the war with Mexico. After ranching in Tulare County in California he drove a herd of cattle to Virginia City in May 1860. At that time the Pyramid Lake War broke out with the neighboring Indians. He organized a militia company known as the “Virginia Rifles”. On June 2, 1860 this regiment took part in the second battle. Storey was killed in this battle.

@@earthandtime5817 That's the Decatur Cemetery, in Decatur Georgia. The majority of my family's planted there, but apart from that it's also a very cool cemetery. But I dunno, maybe today I think the Virginia City Cemetery seems better. I remember the day I explored it was in October too, and there was a really strong dry wind blowing through it. That was a vibe!! Another one I like a lot is very small by comparison. It's the Somersville, California Cemetery, in East Contra Costa County.

@@earthandtime5817 Thank you! I live in Ohio, but Western US has always had a pull over me. So much history and amazing geological formations out there. Would be an amazing place to visit one day!

Very interesting. However, the town could do more to restore the cemetery. Not very well taken care of.

I think they have volunteers who do help clean. It is a harsh environment there and I am surprise how much is preserved. I would love to see it more fully restored though. Thanks for the comment.

The cemetery is actually in better shape than it used to be! Someone is certainly trying! It looks better than when I last visited it.. and that's nice.
