Hi Alex & Ed, what Ed was trying to remember with that big gas light is the people who used to light them were called Lamplighter's. Those ceilings are gorgeous especially that one where Ed turned the lights on. A great explore, well done guys, that's another one off the list, now Buck House 😉 Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 🥰

Great find .this is amazing the art decor detail of everything is amazing. The blood sweat n joy that's gone on in this building. Must be unreal .this was once their homes .so sad its no longer a barracks .just wo during if it has yet been started on in renovating this. I wonder what has happened to many that has walked through them doors .

I’ve been to a few wedding receptions in that great room when this was still open to the public. If it is made in to a hotel I hope they do it sympathetically. So many of our historic buildings have been developed by housing developers around here. I’ve even worked on some of them which were done well and retained as much as the history as they could (as they are also listed buildings). It would be nice to see this place brought back to life rather than being left to rot. It looks like there’s already a fair amount of water ingress sadly.

I remember going there as a child, and I seem to remember a mannequin in the entrance that they projected the talking face of Windsor Davies onto as a greeting to all the museum visitors.

Very sad. I lived there for a while as a child 1969/70. The Officer's Mess a very elegant place and a wonderful place for children's Xmas parties. Father Christmas upstairs and pirates in the cellars. A bugler played Sunset on the parade ground every night. Hard to believe it's now in such a state of disrepair.
