i'm a 34yo italian engineer. i like the video but i work in some "segment" of engineer. i work a lot in Heritage building revamping and reinforce the hystorical Structures. project new structure. project foundations, pile foundations, retaining walls, sheetpile, slope stability, hydroelettric turbines, mechanical component (metal, plastic or composite stuff)... i think engineering world is a beatiful extrnsive world

My understanding is that apartment buildings are meant to allow occupants to escape the building in an earthquake event, but the building will still have to be demolished. 😮

depends on the extent and type of damage the structure was designed for. it can respond in a non-dissipative or dissipative manner the damage can be concentrated in certain devices that will be replaced, repairing the structure. or distribute the damage and dissipation across all the Structural elements (and therefore the structure will probably have to be thrown away or repaired at great expense and cost). it depends on the choices made in the design phase and the budget available for construction
