Yeah, agree about Ricketts. It's strange that someone of his fame being part of it isn't at least mentioned, especially by John who was actually there. But it's said in RDR1 that he's *rumored* to have been there and he never said he was, so I personally think he wasn't really there and it's all just an Old West legend. IMO they shouldn't have made the Van der Linde gang part of the massacre and instead left the whole thing ambiguous.

@tagus1008 ай бұрын
More evidence: 1) Pre-release screenshots & trailer footage that shows the gang in Great Plains & Blackwater 2) Story logic. There's Chapters 1-6 and an Epilogue, but oddly no Prologue? 3) Dialogue from Hosea in Chapter 2 states that "we had locations scouted out in New Austin (for a new camp)". This would likely have been a mission which introduces Arthur to NA, after which he could free roam in that area. Thus why he has specific drawings for POIs, Legendary Animals & Fish, and can complete A Test of Faith, all of which are inaccessible for him in the main game. 4) Narrative progression. The game revolves around the gang setting up, then having to flee due to being chased by Milton & the Pinkertons. This is for two reasons: the Blackwater Massacre, and Cornwall funding them after they rob his train in Chapter 1. Arthur wasn't involved in the Blackwater Ferry Heist and ensuing massacre but did come to help the gang when they were pinned down. Therefore, we can conclude that a Prologue chapter of the gang in Blackwater existed and would've let Arthur free roam in New Austin, then the massacre happens and the gang flee into the mountains, where the game starts as we know it.

I think the way they opened with RDR2 taking place after the events was very smart and makes for a lot of mystery to set up the next Red Dead game. I know a lot of people want Rockstar to move away from the Van der Linde gang in the next Red Dead game, but personally I think one more entry with the gang, maybe showing some events building up to the Blackwater ferry job and finally showing how it went down would be a beautiful conclusion to the trilogy of the Van der Linde gang. By then, we'd basically know the fates of all the characters, have a surface-level understanding of all the major events in the most eventful part of the gang's history (1895-1899), all the stories would be concluded and there would be no more questions surrounding the gang still. In my eyes, I'd love for the story of RDR3 to be about some of the events we hear mentioned in RDR2, of course the infamous Blackwater Massacre, but others too like the snitch in the gang before Micah that Dutch kills in the camp, why Colm killed Annabelle and how Dutch killed Colm's brother, how Bessie died, and maybe we see how different characters entered the gang (which we know most of already, we just don't get to see it). Seeing the Van der Linde gang in the wild west would be so cool in my opinion, a group of outlaws and gunslingers in the criminal underbelly of outlaws and gunslingers is just too perfect to not get. Personally, I'd like the protagonist to once again be someone new, and a common suggestion I much agree with is Mac Callander, he's one of very few members of the gang we have no imagery of, but he's the brother of Davey Callander, the man who dies in the opening of RDR2. Almost all the gang members think of him fondly, and some stories show he was the best gunslinger in the gang, the scariest, but also one with a heart of gold described by Bill. Him or his brother Davey would honestly make for great protagonists in my opinion, and Rockstar could keep with the tradition of the protagonist dying in the end.
@andrewnolen85784 ай бұрын
I agree I think we should start with Mac with the rise of the van der Lin gang up to blackwater that would be the perfect beginning/ ending of the red dead series
@shauntate49684 ай бұрын
Could also play as the snitch. Loads of ways they could go with it tbf. Basically a brand new character they have to real limits for because all we know is that there was a snitch who got killed but we don't know how long he/she rode with the gang, how immersed they were, close with all the members etc. you could easily play as them and not know your the snitch until you die. Even then they were ambiguous enough with it where you don't know if they were really a snitch and if they were is that why Dutch is obsessed that the gang will turn on him and essentially calls people out on it from the beginning of game 2, like it had a massive effect on his mentality. Of course the Callander brothers would feature heavy, as would Jenny. Can have the rats of the gang there, including Arthur even if not majorly centred around them. How Micah joins the gang and all the other stuff you mentioned. So much story to tell so I'd be happy with one last installment. Even if they wanted blackwater to remain somewhat ambiguous still, you could do the bairn and switch so when the snitch dies you then play Arthur (like you do John in no2) where you get all the Blackwater plans in the build up but don't actually go to Blackwater. Just add more lore but leave it up to the gamers to decide what they will.
@lorenzoborri87602 ай бұрын
the callander brothers didn't have any redemption, even charles said that in the mission where you resque eagle flies from fort wallace. the games are called red dead "REDEMPTION" for a reason. the best idea for another prequel to the saga imo would be showing the beginning of the gang, with dutch, hosea, maybe annabelle and bessie, and giving and introduction in the gang to either arthur or john, all of them obviously accompanied by some other side characters, and obliously a different protagonist (no dutch hosea arthur or john shit, the game needs some form of redemption to be called "RED DEAD REDEMPTION", arthur and john had their games, dutch and hosea had no redemption). the ambientation of the game could really vary, from the far west as some of the van der linde gang members recall it, as maybe even blackwater, cause as we know from arthur's journal dutch and hosea have been there before arthur joined the gang (and we know that arthur was one of the first members).

Well, to be fair, the response to the Siant Denis job is pretty big. They show up to the new camp with dozens of Pinkertons, and a maxim gun. Many of the story missions they treat Saint Denis like it's off limits, but they unfortunately have nowhere else to run. There's also the point that Dutch deliberately murdered an innocent woman in the Blackwater job, whereas in Saint Denis it was strictly against Pinkertons. I think that's the boundary that makes Blackwater worse.

I think they cut the prologue down to a quarter of its size due to pacing. It probably started right before those rocks that block the map as a cutscene and then either had a brief shootout or cutscene that had an avalanche. I don't think there would be any missions in the extended prologue, maybe just some light tutorials, or it could've been mostly cutscenes. But the first chapter is pretty drawn out and while it might be cool on the first time having it even longer would probably turn off most casual players trying to get into the game. I'd imagine the game starts out in the evening without a storm and after the avalanche the storm picks up and it gets dark.

And some side missions. Also, train robbery in the 1st chapter should absorb the oil robbery, because it is pretty unmatched to chapter 2 vibes

We would have also seen already dead character in prologue chapter. Even if we play before blackwater massacre, as arthur we still wouldnt know what happened. Since arthur and hosea were planning to scam but micah tried to convince dutch to rob bank and it failed. We would only see it from auther's point of view suddenly getting attacked by pinkertons out of no where. That would be more effective start for a mystery.

just adding a few stuff of what I know or theories. btw good video. I like the fact that you mentioned the part of the map that happens in the opening scene is actually a hidden part. basically the map of RDR2 went through many many changes. the dev said it themselves that before the release the actually moved a lot of the mountains and whatnot for some reason. it can be seen from the trailer as well if im not mistaken. also from the data diggers lots of the beta maps have been found and this video does a fantastic job at showing them. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYCokn5oqbejn68&ab_channel=BasementGamerBros im also guessing you either have or will make a video about Guarma as well since that places went through a bloody amount of cut content. if you look at the old maps of the game the snowy regions of the map is much larger than it is in the current game and it definitely also included the glacier cracks and the 3 lakes further down from it. even some of the loading screen images are either from the beta game or from the outer regions of the map and one in particular caught my attention which is a photo of those 6-7 trees at 5:53 above the frozen waterfall. on the image itself it has the word "thaw" written on it which could indicate something and I am somewhat convinced that this was probably the place where you could find the frozen Neanderthal. it does hurt that the area got cut so much considering how bloody detailed it is. a lot of people don't like the snow but for me thats the most fascinating part of the map. going through this website and looking at the concept arts shows how different the map was planned to be like Cumberland Forest being called Cumberland Falls and having snow BUT concept art is nothing too important because they are concepts. what is important is what is found within the game files rockstarintel.com/several-of-new-red-dead-redemption-2-concept-art-emerged-by-a-former-concept-artist/ yeah kind of a long read but I love these stuff for some reason. sad to see so much cut content. I've explored soooo many parts of the outter maps even gotten inside the glacier cracks using glitches.

it reminds me of zoopopia where we would have had a more hardcore story but it was scraped. stuff like this makes the originals lame when you realize they had a vision of a wider lens .

if they give the dev team enough time. if rdr2 wasn’t rushed and was released a couple years later it would’ve had all this cut content along with what they have now and it would’ve been even crazier

Blackwater massacre and history of the gang will be in RDR3. RDR1 talkt about the gang in de past. RDR2 was about that story... In RDR2 they talk about Blackwater and how they formt the gang. So RDR3 will be that story...

Makes me sad how much cut content rdr2 especially in the snow. There is so much done in the outside of the map that we dont see sadly , im sure they intended to use a lot of the map considering how well modeled it is.

Now this was just on the Internet don’t trust it fully. I don’t even trust it, but apparently you were supposed to be able to go into Canada and if you think about it where the game starts it’s outside of the border and if I’m correct, that’s where Canada is, so maybe the camp that was talked about a lot in concept, art was where you was supposed to stay and then admission were you’d have to go scout out and then you leave coulter and then a cussing place and then that’s when chapter 1 officially starts off that’s just a little theory on my own or how it would work if the Canada theory or if the content with Canada and the old camp in snowy mountains happened
@edboy36443 ай бұрын
Idk, i doubt that canada is right above the Map, i get the states are small due to game restrictions but i imagine there are a few more states between the map and Canada

Spoiler Alert. Mac Callander did not die in Blackwater Milton told lot of shit during RDR2 to manipulate Dutch's Gang. Thats why they Cut the Prologue they gonna use it as Epilogue beginning for Mac.
@divinium333 ай бұрын
Cuz they have the brilliant idea of making another prequel and the final mission will be black water and end on the mountains
@Kabeer-bq6xr3 ай бұрын
That would be kind of bad like imagine having just a ferry job as the final mission I think they should go back in time and make us play only as Dutch and Hosea and add a different final mission like taking a rival gang down and making the ferry job as a post credit scene forseshadowing the vanderlines gang downfall with the ferry job just like red 2 with the law looking for John
@divinium333 ай бұрын
@@Kabeer-bq6xr I mean a lot happened in the backwater massacre and they can just add more details to it if needed it was a big deal that the characters kept bringing up but we barley knew what happened, and in terms of characters the theme of red dead is playing a character that that dies in the end hence the name, Dutch can’t redeem himself and makes no sense to be a protag, and in an epilogue we’d play as Arthur just as we played John in 2 cuz they’d be the next chronological protag

I'm pondering if they might do a prequel to red dead 2, show how the gang got together, have you play perhaps one of the characters that died on the way to colter, and show everything up through the blackwater job. I think that could be really cool, because you'd have a trilogy, just told backwards with successive releases. Younger hosea and dutch, seeing young arthur, the earliest days of the van der linde gang.
@thientuongnguyen2564Ай бұрын
And that would be too complicated even if you yokels wanna play as a younger version of Arthur. Plus, what's the goddamn point of ending RDR3 right before Chapter 1? Because that just doesn't make sense that in (supposed RDR3) epilogue that all of Dutch's pawns got stuck at the mountain with no way else to advance other than freezing your nuts.

very interesting analysis but I also think this escape mission from the Pinkertons could have been too complex for starting the game, be in some sort of gun fight while riding your horse in the deep snowy mountain. this mission was very complicated with lots of quick time events and made Rockstar to completely scrap the whole idea. it was better and ideal for chapter 1 to be a slow burner and learning the basic mechanics of the game. how to shoot, take cover, lasso and use deadeye. anyways. my biggest gripe with the whole game is how unnecessary it was to include. New Austin in the game after you start playing as John in the epilogue. New Austin barely has any content. I would have preferred if Ambarino was instead much better developed. for example have an actual living town or settled with NPCs, general store, gunsmith, saloon, etc. apparently Tempest Rim was supposed to be a settlement, a living town up in the snowy mountains. that could have been amazing. Ambarino deserved better. to be and feel.mucj more alive than so isolated and empty of life. Ambarino is basically empty of any human activity. you only find wild animals there. nothing else. hell, if Colter was back into a living town in the epilogue when you start playing as John and even have a story mission there with Sadie, searching for Micah's goons in some saloon, that would have been amazing to see. how the time passes and some locations on the map truly transform and become different. the time gap from chapter 6 to epilogue is something like 7-8 years. enough time to drastically change some locations. like for example how Cornwall Kerosene & Tar or Wapiti Reservation become completely abandoned. Colter should have had the exact opposite effect. make Colter a living town again. with NPCs and shops, saloon, gunsmith, trapper, etc.
