Really enjoying these video vlogs, so Informative. What a truly evocative place and so good to hear about the doughboys endeavours that should be more widely known.

My Great Uncle was killed in action there on the first day of the campaign Sept 26th. He was in the 80th Division 320th Infantry Company E from Pennsylvania.

Thank you for reminding us of the cost of war and for taking the time to make this video. My great-grandfather fought in Romagne with the AEF in 1918. We will be back to visit the Meuse-Argonne area ourselves in 2 weeks. Lest we forget.

Thank you for this. So very interesting. My great grand uncle was an America medic who lost his life during one of these battles. 327 Infantry, 82 Division.

Were the monuments destroyed during the Nazi occupation in WW2? Thank you for this- my great grandfather fought with the AEF 37th Infantry Division.

No, some memorials were damaged or destroyed in 1940 but the locations you see in this film were largely unaffected.

General Rawlinson was that disappointed with the mess the Americans made in the 100 day advance that he couldn’t see them functioning as a corps and wanted them withdrawn. Monash was simply furious at the same time as he was constantly losing his men to rescue Americans who had put themselves in terrible positions time and again. It was fortuitous that the Australians led an advance, followed by the Canadians and then the British that broke through the German lines to bring on the armistice, otherwise the Americans would simply have been slaughtered. They had no idea, ignored training, command and repeated orders to mop up before advancing; their mistakes cost them dearly.

Hi Sean - you’re referring to the AEF units attached to the BEF, and the battle on the Hindenburg Line near Bony. That’s a very different story to the Meuse-Argonne where British and Commonwealth commanders were not involved.

Americans made a mess? This war was made possible by European soldiers who failed to prosecute it correctly, we are getting tired of walking behind them with pooper scoopers, clean up your own damn messes

7 Grandfathers, Great Uncles mixed in that WASTE with the 30th Infantry Division from the Tennessee National Guard with only 2 coming home unscathed.... 2 killed, never found, and the 3 maimed for life..... Again, what was the Real Point......?

Gosh, that’s quite the family loss.
