My understanding of the nickname canaries came from when the Flemish weavers came to Norwich with their canaries in the 16th century. Every time I visit Norwich I read it on the wall in the Ribs of Beer🍻

Nice video. My first game at Carrow Road was the Canaries vs Man Utd in Jan 1994. I was just back over in Norfolk from living in South Africa. Giggsy tore us apart, although Ruel Fox did his best (I was super impressed with his skill and work rate, even for a Ipswich lad, and he was soon a favourite) Got a strong memory walking down Queens Road, down through Carrow Hill, to the stadium, with everyone making their way there,

Thanks, a great way to be like there when I’m not (emigrated). I see The south stand still has no atmosphere , I see all seater stadiums are still a shadow of the cauldrons of noise they replaced, as to ticket prices I used to pay 35p for an under 16 standing ticket. But everyone is flush with cash, that stadium has held 40k , and could do again with all standing Barclay and a new tier over the dull arsed main stand.

@@RysFootyParadise The Antelope Ground is the only one really worth a visit. It’s in Bellevue. Go north up Hill Lane past the dell onto archers road on the other side of the site of the ground, continue down archers road, keep going past the crossing with carlton rd to the right and banister road to the left, until you reach the end of archers road and turn right onto The Avenue. Continue onto Dorset Street then onto St. Mary’s road. At the big DHL express turn onto brintons terrace and behind the DHL/ safestore self storage building there should be a road to your left. Only problem with Norwich City is that the ground is not big enough. Sells out for every match no matter what league they play in. Am a Spurs fan but now living in Norfolk would love to go to Norwich more.
@richarddaniels60448 ай бұрын
Just to clarify the street you were on called The Nest isn't actually where the ground was. It was located one street over on what is now called Bertram Way after Bertram Books which was located there before the housing was built.
@geoffpoole4838 ай бұрын
There's a statue in the area which marks where the ground was located. The photo's of the Nest that I've seen gives the impression of a health and safety officer's worst nightmare.

@@geoffpoole483 yeah I live on Bertram Way. Crowd safety was the main reason it was decided to move following an FA cup tie when 25000 attended.

How about you get someone who actually knows what they're talking about instead of some random "fan" who clearly has never done a scrap of research whatsoever. "This is where Norwich used to play up until.......er....1930 something..." Yeah, great. Really informative. Clearly a details man. Anyone would think he's never heard of Google.

Check out the latest video of his ManCave mate - he’s a MEGA fan… I threw questions at him, it’s not like he was given the heads up 😅
@sallyjones1438 ай бұрын
@@RysFootyParadise He might have a ManCave and be a MEGA fan (!), but if he was visiting The Nest and being interviewed then his research could have been better! 0.50 NCFC left The Nest in summer of 1935 1.30 The pitch was not that close to Rosary Road, there being a row of houses between the road & the pitch (you used a photo that clearly showed this) 1.55 The capacity of The Nest was nearly double his estimate; the ground record being over 25,000 3.03 Norwich had yellow shirts & green collars in 1907, long before The Nest was even considered as a ground. Likewise, the first use of 'Canaries' as a nickname was recorded in April 1905, and formalised in programmes of 1905/06. 3.28 The 'Cityzens/Citizens' nickname is likely a play on the 'City' suffix, but as Man C were founded some eight years earlier than Norwich it is doubtful that NCFC were the original holders of that nickname.

Comon GAZ - get it rought ol bor ! - Capacity was around 25,000 and when City started getting bigger crowds from a cup run and a wall collapsed, the FA FORCED them to get a better and safer stadium for bigger crowds. The record crowd was against Sheff Weds in the cup. The Carra was built in two months between the seasons and they started the next season at Carra Rud. 1935 was the first season. The Nest lay abandoned for many years and then later Bertram Books ( the famous Bertram family ) was there for many decades until the sold up in the 2000s and the land became housing.
