Exploring the ruins of 'The Hermitage' at Standish in Wigan

Mr H takes a Boxing Day bimble and explores the now overgrown ruins of a large house hidden in a small wooded area amongst the fields of Standish near Wigan, that was built and gifted to the Catholic Church in the late 1700's by the Standish family for use as a parochial home for priests serving in the Standish community.

Happy New Year Mr H. I used to fish in the pond as a kid. It was famous for its tench. This was about 40 years ago and unsure if its still fished as it looks much more overgrown now and no sign of any fishing pegs. I moved away from the area a long time ago and loved having a trip down memory lane again on another of your videos. Thanks.

I remember the House in the mid 70's. The pond my eldest brother used to fish regularly, part of our history! Yes the parish boundaries are a mystery I was confirmed in St Anne's Shevington by the Bishop of Blackburn.

Happy new year Mr H, The house was still there in the late sixties early seventies, has kid's we used to play in the house and also it had large wooden sheds in the grounds aswell , not sure exactly when it was demolished.

Loads of good Tench in that pond, but it was before Convid when I last fished it. It's a hard fish though, as it's very weedy.

Yes the pond was locally called the hermitage was full of fish and big fish back in the day 80s 90s didn’t have that drain off then,
