Memento Mori 05's: the polar opposite of the Ouroboros Cycle 05's
@thorshammer78833 жыл бұрын
Even so in a hundred trillion multiverses in a hundred decillion universes where the SCP Foundation exists there is always a 05 Council. Some darker then others, some more desperate then others, and some more human then others. In each one there is always a immortal Administrator who sits at the top and observes and directs the actions of the Council in some way. By the end of it all the 05 Council are themselves but a small gear in a endless invention that is the SCP Foundation. As DJKaktus has showed us before. There will always be a Foundation, there will always be a Administrator, and there will always be a 05 Council who are always human. This is how the way ends. For the True Administrator who sits at the top of creation expects it and he demands it for he is a part of the Foundation and the Foundation is a part of him. It is simply *the way it ends.*

I believe the original point of the 05s were to BE cold and heartless to make tough calls, that's why the ethics committee existed. @@TartarusHimself -It's always interesting to look at groups like the 05 council and their equivalents in other stories and even in real life, especially when you consider a part of your first line. To be cold and heartless to make the tough calls, the calls that other people could never make, for the greater good of humanity. Or, they made and have been making and have to make the tough calls, which then makes them cold and heartless. Which is it? Because an argument can be made for both, and the interpretation almost always changes depending on the scenario and which "side" is doing the interpreting.

"You ever hear about that thing down at Samothrace?" - Trigger phrase in SCP-1173. I have only just now read about this SCP, so I have no complete thoughts about it. What I find dark about it are the names of the O5-Council - as another commenter brought up, they all share the names of some of the first (and some of the most famous) authors/characters in the wiki - and that all have ultimately died. Considering that at least a few have stopped writing at best (Dr Agatha Rights was a particular instance to me), it feels like a reminder of times now long gone. Also the fact that the Administrator said "It's time to start burying the past. Make room for the future. There will never be a group like this again [...]" at the final entry, it feels like an ode of farewell to what will no longer exist. Also, does it feels like the SCP Foundation staff, especially the O5 Council, are becoming more and more anomalous? E.G. The Oroboros Cycle (i.e. The Way it Ends), O5-13, etc? Not to mention the anomalous MTFs like Tau-5 (Samsara), Omega-0 (Ara Orun) and Omega-12 (Achilles' Heels).

@goldenking20463 жыл бұрын
Yes, the foundation is getting more and more anomalous, it was inevitable. In the beginning there was strict separation, council-members weren't even supposed to touch anomalies, let alone be anomalous themselves. MTF Omega-Seven was even written specifically to be a cautionary tale against what happens when the line between Jailor and Jailed become blurred. But eventually things changed, as bigger scps and GOIs were added it no longer made sense for the foundation to contend against all of these forces without having some sort of anomalous power on it's side as well. The Thaumiel class was introduced, and people created new MTFs like Samsara that are essentially "successful" versions of Omega-Seven. One can only fight with demons for so long before... Most importantly of all: the writing evolved. Most of the early guidelines were born out of a fear that SCP would devolve into DC, that introducing too many anomalous humanoids helpful to the foundation would just turn this into a universe of superhero stories rather than horror tales. But the writers have gradually proved this is not the case, we can have an anomalous super-powered Council and super-soldier MTFs without destroying the spirit of what the foundation is.
@d4s0n2822 жыл бұрын
@@goldenking2046 huh, very interesting, reading this no, it seems super sad, like it was the end of an age for the scp foundation, or something alike, although it will be interesting how writers will direct the foundation in the future imo, maybe they will just totally get rid of 05, which i think would be a interesting idea, and going down the way this story aims it more or less

The Administrator seems like the classic "Immortal man" trope; having to see all his friends die over and over again, eventually getting so tired of it that he detaches himself from the very idea of friendship and even humanity, ridding himself of the chance of making friends, doomed to work forever, permanently alone. I think what made this SCP so tragic is from how one can relate to at least one of the O5s. The dog dying, the O5 not being able to tell his colleagues of their death, the O5 that died on childbirth and how O5-13 had to survive it. The O5 that died watching the sun rise after living for such a long time. Dr.Mann and his loneliness and his difficultly connecting with people. These all show human emotion and very relatable ones. Movies that have the audience experience these emotions get awards.

A story about the fleeting nature of life, the tragic irony that even the most fantastical human beings imaginable will inevitably prove the architects of their own demise, and the “I have no idea what I’m doing” scientist dog meme. But somehow, it works. *Peak* SCP. Genuinely brilliant. Well done, sir. Well done, indeed. 👍

A seemingly mundane tale that get more emotional and sad as one progresses through it, one thing to take away though is that according to this 001-proposal, the entire SCP Foundation is now run by a single Overseer, no Council to argue the best way to handle things or to make sure the decision they come to, is the right or best one.. That would be a possibly Very volatile foundation.
@feepentertainment67522 жыл бұрын
That or its just communication between site directors. The Administrator didn't seem to take much of a role in terms of the big decisions, and I could see that still being the case.

For those who are curious = memento (2nd person singular, future imperative) + mori (infinitive present). Literally : "Do remember you are dying" or "Bear in mind that you die". Usually translated: "remember you will die", "remember (your) death", "remember you are a mortal",

Honestly this is one of the most beautifully tragic entries/videos I’ve seen, and in my opinion this is the opposite of the ouroboros cycle with that one being a story to set things right only to be shown that all the lose and pain was for nothing.

This is a nice change for the 05 council and I really like how the council is used to comment on death as a concept. Usually they're left in the dark for good reason and in many other universes and SCPs they're either described as or straight up are anomalous or not human themselves. So this definitely stands out for me. Really like the fact that this is less of an SCP despite being a 001 entry and more of a story that humanizes the council through death as well.

This has only been uploaded for about 2 days but It's probably my favourite or second favourite scp. This narrative has been keeping me sane throughout the military coup in our country. I live in Myanmar and it's been 45 days since a military takeover and over 240 peaceful protesters have died, lots of whom had so much potential for a bright future and I don't know, how long I can keep going on too but this story helps me keep in touch with how I could die any minute from these terrorist shooting into my window or raiding my house at night to arrest me and even through that depressing thought, stay grounded into reality.

I always admire your 001 proposal videos. Most SCP related videos mostly treat them as a group (which they are but still) and never really show why they were seen a proposals for one of the most valuable titles in SCP history. While you inspect their individual worlds and how they influence the SCP canon and it makes you really appreciate that so much effort goes into these concepts.
