Never in our genetic lineage has a single individual lived only under pleasure and enjoyment. Even the most decadent, hedonist cultures and people can not avoid some pains or inconveniences. Even in the fantastical technological realms like the SCP universe, humans as we would know them do not possess the depth of existence to know an infinite paradise. The very things which humans can pride themselves for were forged in the fires of survival. Project palisades still gives me chills for some reason...such a good scp!
@christiangauthier727 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they're both Great SCP's that I just recently rewatched. The conversation with SCP-411 is a masterpiece in itself, as the first time, it's just so amazing for the concept and the mystery, the intrigue that's being fed while giving us answers & new information, and it works so well because of the cryptic way the info is revealed... Cryptic, but not too obscure as to be frustrating and a cheap writing gimmick to artificially prolong the mystery, striking just the right balance of giving us answers to questions we had (or were subconsciously starting to form), and information that hints at what's coming, IS 100% relevant, piques pur curiosity, but is carefully dosed as to stay very limited, a very small part of the exchange, to keep a good balance between everything: trying to figure out what's going on, following the backwards conversation, staying fully immersed in the moment, in that scene, by avoiding an overflow of information, giving us a few answers that also contribute to the world building, and a few drops of new, strange elements that stimulate our imagination and push our puzzle solving instincts. When you come back to this Story, this part is just so much more delightful because you can focus and appreciate even more the flow and how everything holds up together so well! But there are also many other Story elements, Layers (and this one has MANY!), that reveal themselves and can be explored each time you revisit. The Author's Influences, the Themes and trying to decipher his Message behind all this (because the story has so many complex moral elements, there are multiple points to consider, and it's hard to really tell if some things are there on purpose or not, wether they were included simply to serve the story or to introduce a deliberate Theme... What I'm saying is that sometimes, it's hard to tell if some Themes were included willingly or if it's your social context and cultural knowledge that allow you to see those Themes while they weren't meant to hold any true meaning.) All in all, it's a pretty damn disturbing Story, very evocative, with wonder and beauty in it, but also an almost overwhelming darkness. I think that the deeper you dwelve into some Themes (such as the meaning of Suffering in Life), the harder it hits. That's why this time, it's had a much more intense effect on me than the first.

This SCP proposal reminded me vividly of this short story, "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas From The Wind's Twelve Quarters: Short Stories by Ursula Le Guin". Basically, a utopian society is built on the premis that one child must always be kept in darkness and filth, and as long as that child is continuously abused and suffering, the utopia thrives. Everyone knows about the child and has to live with that knowledge as they enjoy the perfect world, but every once in a while, someone who learns this secret just cannot bear it so they choose to leave instead. Another very bittersweet ending.
@spongeintheshoe Жыл бұрын
Wasn't it implied in _Omelas_ that the kid didn't actually _have_ to be tortured to maintain the utopia, but they just threw it in because the audience couldn't accept the idea of a utopia that _doesn't_ have some horrible catch to it?

@spongeintheshoe I think that's also the point being made in Past and Future as well. These aliens can rewrite reality and do whatever, yet allegedly *_NEED_* humans to suffer horrifically for the sake of their utopia. They need this so badly that they are willing to cause mass despair nust to trick them into even worse suffering. The aliens (who I like to call the Past and Future) is Omelas played straight. They commit unnecessary suffering for the sake of their utopia.

@Omega_A3 Жыл бұрын
@@RaveNinja1401 the foundation does also have the ability to neutralize many anomalies that pose a greater threat and are way harder to deal with the then ones that scp-001 messed with. The foundation just chooses to contain them then deal with the problems neutralizing them might cause. The foundation would be more than capable to go to war with SCP-001 but the biggest issue is how does the foundation reach them. SCP-001 can mess with them by altering anomalies but that's all they can really do meanwhile the foundation can easily weaponize nearly any anomaly at their disposal. In the case of this canon SCP-001 is safe from the foundation purely because the foundation can't reach them.

Ok, I think I get it (maybe). the man at threshold exists in the Tower of unfulfilled bad ideas, the MTF team finds it, and it memetically affects the squad, making them sacrifice themselves and causing the Bad Idea to manifest in reality. However in order for the system to manifest fully it needs humanity as a whole to move onto the planet of hands, as without them it's system still remains "uncompleted". Destroying the Tower at the end, which was "anchoring" the utopians to our reality until they could be completed, unmoores them from our reality and leaves them permanently unfulfilled. I think. The whole "humanity came from the planet of hands" is just the retroactive justification for the system in order to properly manifest. "It was in the man at the threshold so it has to be this way in reality to make it completed" essentially. (It's basically pulling a Chronicles of the Daeva)

So wait... Was Gabriel a result of O5-2's alley encounter? Is that why she gives up on the emotional turmoil the memory has on her?

This SCP is also hyperlinked through going from SCP-2002 (a destroyed spacecraft from the future) to SCP- 2003 (a time-traveling device or smth) I dont know if thats important but I do know that it took me way too long to read all of them

If you liked this, I highly recommend the 3 Body Problem series, as its another science fiction with a sense of inevitable dread and horror.

The baseball match was just a glimpse of how we might play strangely wrong this chance at creating a good life for all, so we gotta educate, teach, have healthy fun and add some colors to the world. The dark humour keeps the vermins away also heheheheheh-hehehehe-heh!

So yeah, anyone else think if we end up in this universe I'm making a break straight for SCP-1485? Honestly, I'd do it the second I realize what multiverse I'm in.

The kickback from drilling into the upper mantel would be terrible! Cold water hitting that would launch a geyser into the stratosphere making for a hell of a rain storm! Then there's the problem of massive tsunamis on most coasts. So yeah, let do that to save people. 😂

They're listed in the description, although I think he's said in an FAQ video before that he uses Google to search for them a lot of the time. Like images relevant to the current part of the story in the videos and stuff.

This whole thing reads like some corpo libertarian esc schill who's like "yeah bro capitalism is good and people suffer in Africa for the betterment of the western utopia, it's like human nature to cause suffering bro believe me"

I like to imagine God (hey, you pick yours) speaking through the dying man at the end. "You forsake death, but deaths wisdom is lost to you." They created their own "natural" balance, but it was never natural for man to NOT have an end.
