@@MidoriNatsume And why not? The problem I'm describing isn't unique to them, it's a textbook example of something that thousands of vocal complainers on social media are constantly chanting to each other like a mantra, talking about how hard their lives are and how bad it makes them feel, while literal human beings literally actually starve to literal death on the streets of the city that their apartments and offices float far above. I feel absolutely justified in calling out such BS whenever I hear it.
@quicksilvertongue3248
@quicksilvertongue3248 Ай бұрын
@@TheoEvian Well you have enough wealth to obtain a PhD, which I sure as hell never could; maybe you had to go into debt to pay for all that college, but at least you're considered a good credit risk by the loan officers, and that already puts you in like the top 10% of humanity right there. Fame, okay sure, that doesn't mean what it used to in the Internet age. So maybe your situation is worse than I'm imagining, but I'd bet good money that it's better than you feel as though it is, because you've probably never experienced the REAL suffering that is a daily reality to thousands of people in your city that are basically invisible to you. I'm not trying to be combative here, really. But people who are doing well, and benefiting from an engine of progress that consumes human suffering as its fuel, should at LEAST have the decency not to whine about how hard they have it.

I feel like this is also a commentary on the complaints about the wiki being full of SCPs that don't meant everyone's individual expectations. It feels like a message to accept the wiki for everything it is, good and bad, and move on from the entries you don't like without obsessing over & ranting about them. It feels like a warning about the anger and dissatisfaction that feeding those emotions can bring. Or maybe I'm just reading something else into it
@droxer673
@droxer673 Ай бұрын
The author's mother died earlier this year, so this story is sort of a wat to cope with that. Many meanings can be drawn from it, I suppose. To comment on your main point, while I agree that people should move on from SCPs they don't like, this is one of the "thousands" scps. They are contest winners and are usually a really big addition the the wider scp lore. This one doesn't feel like that, so I feel criticism around it would be fair.

@@thomaspau211 There's nothing wrong with it. Only dipshits who gatekeep writing say things like what this other person is. There are literally thousands of articles, and it's foolish to expect the SCP universe would be as thriving as it is now if every single article was just some scary monster, or weird object. Like the op posted for this comment thread, people should learn to move on from what they don't like, and find stuff they do like. There's plenty of it, they just aren't seeking it out. They want the special numbers to be the ones they like, because they don't actually read through the wiki.

Edit: realized Wally didn’t say he wouldn’t lie, he said he’d be honest with Lag (or however it’s spelt) if Lag was honest with Wally. So obviously the real issue is Lag isn’t even being honest with himself. “if Wally said he wouldn’t lie. Then says he doesn’t have a name, then latter says his name has always been Wallace. Did he lie, or did he rewrite the observable universes into one where he’s called Wally so this conversation can move forward?”

I always personslly found the scps like 2000 and 3000 intresting on how they explained sort of fundemental functions of the foundation, or how 1000 and 4000 made great additions to the universe which other authors to itterate on. @@EspeonMistress00I don't see a good reason though why more simple x000 articles like 1000 or 4000 are effectively gone from the x000 competetion pool. They were much more flexibe for authors to utilize to create new articles unlike 5000 and 6000 which are essentially tales and thus cannot be itterated upon by other authors to the same degree as older x000 articles.

@@justaamateur6533 7000 is an example that this is still possible. What foundational thing it introduced is rather niche compared to the source of amnestics or the reset machine, but I’ve seen a lot of great uses of the bad luck sink as a plot device/comic relief/“a wizard did it” hand wave explaining how a small group of humans with guns pulled something world ending off without dying.

like this piece a lot, and while I did have a few issues with it initially, I believe this deserves its recognition regardless, and I give my deepest condolences to the author themselves too. Now, on to my thoughts: I love this as a narrative experience, and its commentary hits close to home for me. Like some, I find myself relating to Lague a lot as my strive for perfectionism (professionalism too) has always been my own hubris and being a workaholic doesn't help too. EX: (If I want to work on a book in my free-time I will hyperfocus on “perfecting” it until it's molded into a masterpiece even if it takes all day and all night in the process). I have had quite a few peaks in my life too and due to those great accomplishments, I have steeped into a great and spiraling burnout that has taken a toll on my life as a result and it's led to a long depression. I know I can't achieve such things again like I want to as I have too many good ideas to choose from, like looking at an endless canvas. I lost all of my friends as a result and I pushed everyone away from me. I'm all alone now besides my supplies and failures to reflect on. I do not wish such a burden and suffering to fall upon anyone. I'm doing everything I can to make a difference and to recover from it but If you're reading this then thank you it means a lot to me. This took me all night to write so I'm sorry if this is too long so do forgive me and to leave on a high-note I want to thank the Exploring Series for being with us for all these years. It's been fun to listen to. I've been reading the SCP mythos since 2014. I've seen a lot of awesome works since then and now there is an 8000th slot? It's impressive how time flies by and of course there will always be more in the future too. I might even write in my own pieces of work on the website but we'll see until then!

Basically this is a story of someone who partially didn't "drink the humble juice' in time and never concidered going past being the ideas person. It's the mix well known to many who do anything, be it artistic, cullinary, craft, coding- the disapointment that something didn't come out as you hoped, as you wanted, as you wished, one that in some causes severe discouragment. It's a feeling that it's better to teach people not to drown into- as it stops you from doing anything in life. Overconfidence in your own abilities is bad, yes, but stopping doing something just because you failed once is equaly as bad. In addition there's also a hint of of seeking only validation in what you do- the validation showered from others, rather from yourself. Being pat on the back and akownegled is a confidence boost and feels good, but boiling everything down to gathering validation from people arround you will make your life missearable

Finally. This was the other 8k entry that I felt had earned the victory (beside 8002, Maslov's Fire). Quite a few of them were very well-made, or entertaining, or so strange and bizarre that I had to upvote (8501, anybody?), but this one cuts deep (though it's somewhat ironic that an SCP about contentment and the value of self-worth should win a contest). I myself entered, and while I got a much lower ranking than even my humblest estimates foresaw (maybe 30 positions lower than I'd hoped), I came back with two more SCP articles that I'm still proud of--and I'm going to write more. I feel that's the essence of the story: that failure is only the end when you say so, that happiness can be found in small victories, and a job finished is often its own reward, regardless of the glory it brings. So, congrats to PlaguePJP for making a hell of a sweet (but not condescendingly so) SCiP. Now we just have to wait for 8500 and the darkly-hilarious 8999.

I ask people "do you know and what you say and do?" They say "I don't and I stop caring about it a long time ago" you are what you make of it but it's easier said than done so I fallow someone who knows and they are older than time. P.s. Someone showed us the way along time ago a friend that was killed by hands that didn't know.

As much as I like the sci-fi and horror based scp’s, I really love when we get personal character based ones. Really good short one and done.
