Considering how demos work (i.e. recording all inputs and object locations each frame), using them to load back into a game at a specific point should be more widely accessible, in all games that utilize them. It seems like such an easy thing to implement, all things considered.

It primarily depends on the RNG complexity of the game as well. DOOM and Duke Nukem 3D are primitive in it's RNG, I mean DOOM literally only records your inputs in a demo lump because the RNG table is fixed. Other games (I know of) record demos like this is Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Reach and Halo 4 and it's ports in Halo the Master Chief Collection (the theatre system). And based on the interviews and developer commentaries from Bungie devs who made Halo, they said that they had to simplify AI to be more predictable so that theatre system can record AI movements as well, that's why theatre system couldn't be implemented for Halo 1 and Halo 2. That's why is easy to record multiplayer session as a demo because they only need to record all player inputs and simpler RNG like damage variation, spread, etc. Also there is that issue where devs don't want to spend efforts to code such a system in, especially now that it's easy to send High resolution recordings via internet.

I was always interested in playing both Doom and Duke Nukem 3D as a teen in 2008, but I didn't have a working computer at the time and probably wouldn't have known how to set up either games. When these ports were finally made available for the 360, I must've clocked in countless hours playing both games. Previous home releases felt a bit compromised, but this felt right to play for the first time back in 2008.

I actually loved the ports of Doom and Doom 2. It was the first time I was ever able to play Doom co-op with my sisters. This version of Duke3D was also fantastic. I grew up with all 3 aforementioned games, and when I moved onto Windows 7, on the first PC I ever built in late 2010, I sort of lost the ability to effectively play a lot of old games. Duke3D never worked properly. But having a console port? Outstanding. I had put tons of time into the DOS version and it's a little different but it still felt super good.

I enjoyed this version. When I built my first PC circa 2010, it ran Windows 7, and it impacted my ability to successfully play old DOS games. Prior to that, I did have an old, used, first-gen white xbox 360 before buying my own new one in 2012 after mine died to a Reach-related permanent red-ring cycle. It was really cool having that leaderboard feature. It allowed me to see what crazy shit people did to finish levels quickly. I did play the ports of Doom and Doom 2 more, as they had splitscreen so I could do co-op with my sisters. That was a ton of fun. You haven't experienced Doom until you've done three player splitscreen with siblings.

There was a period where even here in the US, I remember the original Doom vanishing for quite a while.
