I work on these ; Like everything it depends on how well they are taken care of, I’ve seen some crumble after 5 years and I’ve seen some that are 18 years old going strong

Does the machine care if the images are rgb or CMYK? Will it convert on the run?

I believe it can convert RGB to CMYK automatically, however, we do have an art team that does so before it is sent there. We mostly do that to ensure the customer knows that the colors could change when switching between color gamuts. The machine first convert files on its own, the pre press system provided with it gives you plenty of tools to get the best color results, including G7 certified when needed, keeps track of Lab colors, and if you need it it’ll do RGB to YMCK

Can the 6800 run 250mm wide material .

I think they have different models - but ive seen 35K on the low end

@@marknobertinstalled it cost almost $1million dollars. I just bought one. (I obviously didn’t pay that) just for me to get it under warranty it has to be brought up to HP standards and they told me $103k for installation is $12k and additional training in GA $5500 and they come out to you for your opening ramp up that cost $250 per hours and they there for 5 days. I don’t know if I truly have to do all of that but that is what the GM in the Chicago area told me. He said he never really had to deal with a situation where a customer bought the machine second hand so he said he is here to guide me through the process. My question is do the installation have to be done by HP. I’m not really ready to fork over $12k but if I have to I will be dancing 🕺 on that pole😂

it is not a toner, it is a liquid colour. the main ingredient is a paraffin oil, the pigments are a type of plastic particle, the colour is applied at 90-110 degrees celsius. The paraffin oil evaporates and the plastic particles fuse together on the blanket to form an image, which is then transferred to the material.
