This rig is made perfect for the omeo shipwreck! About 20 min drive south of Fremantle, and just a few meters from shore, the wreck sits below the surface lying on bleach-white sand, in crystal clear water. Awesome design and great video mate.

protip for future lightbar builds either fill the bar with a clear acrylic or use a quick fill cartridge from a bike to purge the air from the tube to remove any moisture preventing internal condensation entirely, do this with any viewing volume you can to prevent fogging from ever happening

Also remember that some resins are sensitive to UV and decompose, turning yellow. Also resin shrinks a bit when curing, so don't seal the ends until after the resin has cured.

It might be neat to find some fishing lures for specific fish in an area remove the hooks and see if you can catch a fish taking the bait. If fish are spooked by the boat paint the bottom of it light blue and fit a bigger prop that you spin slower to make less noise. I think this is an awesome project looking forward to whats next.

You should design the dome and FPV camera system so that it can be raised when the boat is in motion and then lowered into the water when you want to view the bottom. Could even design it so the whole dome goes several feet into the water.

The head tracker pan and tilt is exactly what I need. I want to put that into a Sonicmodell HD Wing, which is an FPV flying wing with a clear dome window instead of a nose for mounting FPV gear. You do get two foam noses as well to easily swap out with magnets if you want. Anyways, I needed a way to control the camera within the dome with my head to look around.

You can easily make a dome from acrylic. Make a small table and cover it with felt. Make a hole in the middle and attach a compressor hose on the bottom. Make a plywood ring. Put a piece of acrylic in the oven until it is flexible. Lay it on the table and clamp the ring down over it. Add compressed air and the dome will form perfectly symmetrical.

@ramjet4025

Yes, looking at night underwater is better than day, use multiple lights to get rid of those shadows. A cable connected RPV could go down or you could put a camera on a motorized extendable shaft or straight shaft that is hinged at the back and poking forward, you would lower the shaft down and get that camera down closer to your target.

This boat offers so many possibilities. Not sure if the underwater dome allows looking up enough to aid with navigation. Maybe having two cameras (above/below water) with a video switch would allow you to easily navigate to location, or avoid reeds or surface obstacles, while still being able to explore underwater views. Is almost like being in a submarine.
@electrosync
@electrosync 2 жыл бұрын
You can see forwards enough to make out your path, but it's a very small window because of the boat design and water line. There is also a forward facing camera on one side of the hull which was meant to be wired up to switch between cameras using a receiver controlled switch. I never finished the wiring for that after some setbacks, but I have all the parts there.

I think you should make it go deeper, by using a second bubble, and a crane! That would also pull it all the way out of the water (no drag while moving to a location), then just lower the bubble to a depth, and have a look around. Would need a long cable (maybe ethernet in a tube?), and a weight on the bottom of the bubble (to make it sink), but totally do-able.

I have thought about attaching an enclosed camera to cat 5 cable and lowering it into the water with a winch. My thoughts were that by lowering the camera vertically it wouldn't get snagged by underwater obstacles. There 'would' be some drift especially if there were waves on the surface...but...the propulsion motors wouldn't need to be waterproofed and a tether from craft to shore would not be necessary.
@electrosync
@electrosync 2 жыл бұрын
A winch would be great. Ethernet cable would be a neat way to do it too.
@Fischertek
@Fischertek 2 жыл бұрын
@@electrosync An analog coax cable can be used with your setup, and they are down to 4mm thick.. If you load the camera heavily to get it to stay vertically under the boat, you will need some fishing line to take the load. The coax cable isn't that strong. I have made a similar camera setup, that I can lower from my boat (a manned boat). I use a downrigger to hoist it up and down. Inside the UW camera house there's a VTX transmitter, that keep the video signal strong enough to use an FPV antenna above water. I don't know, if you can feed the headtracker signal in the opposite direction in the same coax cable!? Probably if you go digital :-)
@rotten-Z

The lagoon by my house used to be crystal clear and I caught lobsters under my dock. Today there are no fish and people die from bacterial infections if they fall in or get splashed.

would add some complexity, but what about a full 360 dome attached to an arm that can be lowered into and out of the water? so when you want to go fast you raise the dome out of the water - and you can see above the water (which would still be a cool perspective) and when you want to explore the dome lowers into the water. either way you earned my sub, great project!!!!
