I have been rocking these speakers for over two decades and will continue to do so until they finally die!

Nice! Good to hear they are still working after all this time.

Specified these with my first pc in 1994. Have been using them with a cheap radio for years. Made it sound a lot better. Currently using a Videologic Scirroco Crossfire setup for computer and music. The YST M100 will have a new lease of life with a Yamaha subwoofer.

I have these speakers and never have found something to replace them with. Extra bonus, it has the vintage classic look.

I have the same model but I changed the tweeters with some pioneer tweeter for cars and the increase o bright made them a bit pleasant to me

Thanks for the info, any idea what model the Pioneer tweeters were?

Love the look of the speakers and thanks for the review. It has helped me decide to track down a set. If the mini din cable is missing can any other mini din cable do the job?
@RetroSuperhighway Жыл бұрын
Yep, a straight through mini din cable will work. Be aware that if you do get a pair with the cable included, the original Yamaha cable is very short.

@@RetroSuperhighway do you know if there's any way to extend the 3 pin power cable between the two speakers? i've not been able to find an extender for this type of cable as its not a regular 3-pin din cable. Thanks
@RetroSuperhighway Жыл бұрын
@@camu_jg No idea, I have never tried to extend mine as it was longer than the 8 pin mini-DIN and long enough for what I needed anyway. If it's just power, it might be easier to just cut, solder and extend it with another piece of cable?

I have finally managed to get a hold of these speakers but am also missing the 8 pin mini DIN cable. Would you be able ot check with a multi meter if the all the pins are wired straight thorugh. 1 to 1, 2 to 2 etc.
@RetroSuperhighway Жыл бұрын
It's not a straight through mini-DIN as I tried one with them and it didn't work. When I can get to the speakers I'll check the cable and see what pin goes where.
@EadricWild Жыл бұрын
@@RetroSuperhighway Thank you, that would be much appreciated. I have tried searching for the pinout but had no luck, and most of the other YST series of speakers don't seem to have this cable.
@RetroSuperhighway Жыл бұрын
Sorry this has taken a while! I have checked the Yamaha cable and it is a straight through cable. I though the longer one I bought to replace it was straight through too, but it turn out that 2 pair of pins are swapped over. So I'm maybe that cable was used to for some sort of serial data transfer or something!? Anyway, a straight through cable should be fine for you.

I agree with the tweeter reasoning for better hi end. Since hi freq starts with the mid-woofer, thats prob better quality too. Yeah, maybe a bit tinny, but much more details and spaciousness etc. The 10's have no tweet and it sounds like it. I'll likely look into upgrading the x/0's, at least better caps, that should help. Looking at a pair right now for $45us. Thx for the review!
@RetroSuperhighway2 жыл бұрын
Thats a good way to describe it, you'll hear details on these that are not there on the M10s.
@magseineaprilia2 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your speakers. If I see that right, you have the DSP button active, which makes it difficult to compare those two. That said, I do like the effect option now and then. I have the M100 since over twenty years and wanna keep them. The limiting cables are a hassle, though. Also mine have, probably since ever, a light noise even during idle, so I'm trying to add some ferret filters and such to it, hoping the internal amplification is decoupled enough..
@RetroSuperhighway2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I did, I had then set up to sound the best I could get them to my ears for the comparison and that was with the button pressed. Now admittedly my ears are old and the sound setup wont be the same for everyone, but it was the fairest way I could think of do the comparison. I bought a longer mini DIN cable to extend the distance between the speaks, but although the sockets are the same, the pin out is not so I need to sort that before I can use it.

The M100s sound a bit tinnier, but that might just be the room doing that.
@RetroSuperhighway2 жыл бұрын
Its fair point, I tested them as fairly as I could against the M10s but the room could be far from ideal. They will be going into a different room after they are restored so it will be interesting to see if they sound any different.
