'Mundane' cars like the Orion interest me far more than supercars and exotica, and will always do so. It's good to see one from Ford's 'rusty' period in such fine condition.

Remember my dad brought a Ford Orion Ghea 1.6 injection back in the late 80s 88/89. two tone and he loved it as well as me. He said to this day one of the best Cars he ever had. It was in white with the black skirting on the bottom with the pepper pot alloy wheels. Even looking at old photos of it even now it still looks the part. Only about 110 bhp but the power to weight ratio meant it went like the clappers.

I have bought a 1984 Escort 1.1, sort of little sister to your Orion. It is in Derbyshire, and I live in Spain. Soon I will fly to England, give it a service and drive it home. I am planning to have that as my main car. Having recently retired, I need an economical reliable car, and I am confident the low mileage Escort will fit the bill, and will be a doddle to maintain. I had one new in 1983, and travelled 164,000 miles on the original engine.

The first car i bought once I had my first 'proper job' in 1992 was an earlier 1985 Orion 1.6i Ghia. It had some dodgy panel gaps and developed lots of sill corrosion during my ownership but with peppy performance, five gears, four electric windows, a joystick balance control and brown velour interior I loved it at the time. I preferred the looks of it too compared to the later facelifted one.

@@kieranwhite6647 In Spain its easier to see all tipe of old cars or trucks, the only ones rusted are the vehicles abandoned few decades ago in a field and the ones near the coast, specially in the north of the country because its most rainy . Thats the reason cause a decade ago a lot of old cars strarted to be sold out of the country going to places like england, germany, poland, france... The foreginers pay more for those cars than we, cause we see it every day😅. Its a bit sad see trucks full of them leaving the country.

My dad(sadly no longer with us ) had an Orion in the early 90s, a red mk1 1.6 injection Ghia ,it replaced his brown Datsun estate, so when I got home and saw it ,I fell in love, just looked so cool to a 12 year old !he owned it for a few years , it had the odd breakdown, but given my dad's awful maintenance, it was brilliant, when he traded it in for a Honda shuttle,I was devastated, soon as I passed my test,I got my Orion , I have had them for over 20 years and loved every second, now I'm about to hit 40 , I'm selling the last of my Orion fleet and am moving on , strangely I have Marinas and itals now, I've always had a thing for the underdog, so seems like natural progression! How nice to see an orion being featured! However on that dreaded D reg, they suffered really bad from corrosion, along with the escort and sierra, due to Ford using recycled russian steel!! I replaced plenty of wings, wheel arches etc on them when they were about 4-5 years old. I do at present own a 1985 orion 1.6i ghia and love it to bits! It gets plenty of attention and several ask ' is it for sale' and the answer is no!

( Iwas a Motor Trader Buying Mk3 Escorts from Fleets & Main dealers in the Mid 80's ) We Bought at least 20 or 30 XR3i's in the mid 80's. Along with other Sporty Stuff. My GARAGE VAN, Bought New in Aug 1989 " G " reg, Was Rotted rear floors after 11 years, & was Garaged Every Night . Also we owned a Vehicle VALETING Business Serving Local Main Dealers & Large Businesses. Trade & Fleet Valeting So Very Much in the TRADE. Not a Car a DAY, Our aim was a CAR AN HOUR ! Most were Bought & sold UNSEEN into the Trade. Very Few people Understand How THE Motor Trade actually Works. A Car is Simply an OBJECT of Value to Be Placed with the Best Buyer on your books. just 10% of a £5,000 Car = £500.00. so 2.5 % per car is good Twice a day. Buy it Before Breakfast & sell it before Tea time. = £125.00. X2 = £250 per Day.

@@A1DJPaul I remember my lecturer in the Uni (University of Hull) had told me that from the mass-produced manufacturers at the time, Ford had the best quality control and preserved their tooling better than others. So I can understand how bad where Vauxhalls at the time, for not mentioning the Austin-Rovers. Indeed, when I arrived in the UK in the late '90s BL products were already rare, but even Mk3 Escorts were not rare. I remember a friend of mine bought a Mk IV Escort (1993 model) and I was surprised by the fact that inside the cabin it was much nicer than I thought it would be (not by confort standards, but as a driving machine). At the time Mk1 Focus was in production. The same good memories I had from a Mk2 Fiesta. Yes, a car maybe "Simply an OBJECT of Value" but Fords at the time, while they were a bit rough and cheap looking, however they had a raw mechanical feel and better dynamics than many cars of other manufacturers at the time.
