It is really impressive that you're able to publish videos once a week. That is a lot of work - not just with getting out to the mine and filming, but with the editing, uploading, etc. as well. Very cool to see those square sets! Like you said, those are rare these days. As always, your determination to get into almost completely inaccessible places (squeezing past the collapsed square set and crossing the rotten false floor) is appreciated.

Brilliant drone footage. Thanks for taking us on another immense adventure. Glad you were able to rescue a couple of smaller items, not too much weight for you to carry this time. And the footage that you take from all the mines will be around long after the mines are no longer accessible. Loved this whole episode it was very interesting and exciting as always. Be safe all, and look forward to your next upload.

Awesome video of the Queen mine Frank> I just bought a two cell placer claim on the creek right below the Queen mine. They lost 31000 ounces of gold out of the ball mill into the creek while the mine was in operation, but they didn't bother with it because they were happy with the 57000 ounces that they got. Hope I can find a little bit of what they lost. Keep up the excellent videos Frank and stay safe.

Quite a bit of that gold must have been in the tailings wich were reprocessed in the later years. Well trucked to the smelter in Trail and treated there. While I agree there probably is a lot of Gold in the creek it is very fine Gold and hard to capture.

I'm not sure how I've missed so many of your videos but glad I went back and watched this one. I was looking for a way across the creek about 3 years ago to where you got to but ventured on the south side instead and discovered the Bonanza. I wonder if that second to last adit in the video was the Midnight adit? I've wanted to get back there to explore that slope and this gave me incentive to go once this snow melts. So much to see up that valley, just need to hike across any slope and you discover an artifact or adit. BTW I think that open stope at the beginning was the Yellowstone. A friend of mine and his Dad opened up the bottom adit and I believe it was the top of the 3 main ones. Plan was to mine out the big ore deposit that the original miners left between 2 of the levels. With the price of gold now I'm surprised they aren't working several of these old ones in the Kootenays.
@exploringabandonedmines2 жыл бұрын
The problem is there are no more mills left. Even if you had some good ore what would you do with it?
@kootenaycat2 жыл бұрын
I never thought about that. Teck recovers a lot of gold and silver from the lead/zinc concentrate they buy but I guess you'd have to turn it from ore to concentrate first. I wonder where the gold mines in the "golden triangle" of BC north of Stewart are taking their ore?

I think that's pretty cool stuff to explore history like that... Trams with not so much the support but the size of the wheels in diameter and weight, how did they get those wheels up to the top of the mtn? Where you are today even with all the support timbers , it looks dangerous to me.. After standing up supporting tons of weight all those years I would be worried if I brushed against one and the whole unit may come down on me.. I like the tool your Drone is that's neat.. Well done, I really like exploring old mines, there are a few where I live..

How long did it take them to build the square set, as seen at (16:00) ? How many men would have been in this mine at one time working on building the square set ? Thanks another great Video !

They were all pre notched and would have went up pretty fast. Sometimes they took them down when a stope was mined out and used them somewhere else.

That is so cool, I mine in Washington state we got this hole here that is deep don’t know how deep. One guy used three eighths cable used all 60,000 feet of it and never hit bottom. Melli’s hole. Gold pays the bills Frank find a nice mineralized area and find that shiny yellow metal.

Do you ever encounter animals such as a bear or mtn lion in some of those adits? In the Sierra's almost every cave I ever encountered (way off the trail & away from people) was a black bear den or possibly a den for a mountain lion. There were lots of deer bones & scat as well as old vegetation that was probably bedding.

Comparing that rail with your hand I'd say it was either 8 or 10 lb/yd. Eight lb steel rail was the smallest rolled. It is 1 9/16 inches in height and 1 9/16 inches on the base.

Would you look at that, really nice picture from the quadcopter, big gaping maw opening in to the ground. When i was a kid i stumbled across one of these up in Germany (i think, back then we traveled a lot). Scared the heck out of me, now i kind wish i could find it again.
@aserta7 жыл бұрын
You can make rope savers with pieces of tube. You slice one down the length and fill the inside with foam (so the rope doesn't slip, there's variants for sliding rope but those are more complicated) and you're done. The commercial variant is a lot more expensive and in some cases heavier. I've used them quite a lot and they last (depending on the pipe used, i use PVC that's used here in Europe for electrical routing, the non flammable kind) up to a year, which is ok.
