This bunker is in remarkably good condition. There's barely any rust, no chipping paint or water infiltration issues. It looks like it only needs a quick clean up, new filters for the HVAC and water, and some basic checks, and it's ready for service.

Did you notice the red light that was on towards the end on the top of the green switchboard (he turned his torch away to be sure and you can clearly see it's on). So my guess it it's a status light showing the mains power is connected. You'd just need to start flipping switches to turn everything back on.

It is perhaps relatively normal for something isolated from the elements, but it's amazing how clean and pristine the place is almost 30 years after decommission. Hardly any decay. It is of course partly dismantled, some of the stuff removed, but what remains (which is quite a lot) looks really fine.

Its funny to watch your videos...as what today is called URBEX was one of the usual things boys did after school in the 80ies when I was a kid. I had a classmate and together we explored every old building we could reach with our bycicles. Was so exciting ! We explored an old factory, an old monstary, some WW2 bunkers and many empty houses. For one villa, we kept the key to a side door and we made that villa our head quarters for some month. One time, we went to explore at night but police came and we get in trouble with our parents. Well, lovely times back...

Saw a documentary on this civil defense warning & coordination network last year and one of the former staffers mentioned that it always felt a bit futile waiting for something not to happen as a profession, especially since it would be a pointless endeavor in the event of an all out nuclear war. All they could do then is go down their to-do lists and then "watch" the country (and later the rest of Europe and much of the world) become incinerated in the nuclear fire. They could only be of any use in a very limited conflict, when cooler heads would prevail instead of trying to win something that cant be won... The cold war era is as fascinating as it was frightening! Great explore there! 👌

There are in Fact still a lot of Bunkers in West Germany that are either Abandoned or are still in use for Emergencies. Like in my Town there is an old Abandoned Hospital from the Cold War under a School which you still can see. If you ask the City, they still allow it to see those abandoned Rooms. Or in my old School there also was in the Cellar a small Air Raid Protection Bunker. The Cellar had all normal Doors, but one Door was out of Metal and the Wall was pretty thick and the Ceiling also pretty low. Some Train Stations or Subways have hidden Doors that you cannot see at first, but with closer look you can and behind those Doors are also hidden Bunkers for Emergencies that are still used now.

@@ExploringtheUnbeatenPath Its in Dülken, belonging to the City of Viersen. The School is called Förderzentrum West Viersen. Maybe just ask the City and probably its possible =) But tbh last Time I have seen it when you were able to go down there is 6 or 8 Years ago... Update: School has been Demolished and a new Building is on Top. I guess the Bunker has been demolished as well then!

Do you have an explanation as to why there is so much dust/residue on the floors around 14:00? Was there maintenance done or did someone discharge a fire extinguisher?

I would be careful about turning on the lights. Unless that place has sump pumps that run once a while, or a guard patrols and turns on lights once a while - any energy consumption can trigger a warning system that there is somebody actively inside of the place. That's assuming that there is a system setup, which I doubt there is. But as technology improves, I wouldn't be surprised if those systems get setup. It's not hard to do - just send a warning message if power usage spikes, and then if its not anticipated, send a guard to check it out. Often power gets cut off with a lot of abandoned places unless they have to use sump pumps and so forth to "maintain" the place. If a place is not touched often, it can get a "power profile" - i.e. sump pump runs often when it rains often, rarely otherwise else. Great video - just be careful about turning on lights and so forth because power consumption can be measured and can be used as a data point to inform the authorities that somebody might be in that building. Plus depending on vandalism (I've done a data center study on a building that was stripped of its aluminum and copper) - a lot of things could be stripped out, which could lead to power shorts if you turn on something that was cut and shorted out, and that will be a huge spike in energy usage and create a lot of sparks. I've had that happen to me before.
@juandenz20082 жыл бұрын
A system like that could be theoretically be setup, but I think if they were concerned about unauthorized entry it would be easier and more reliable to just setup a standard alarm of some sort. While smart metering is getting installed and becoming more standard, normally it doesn't report back the data in real-time. Instead it gets logged and sent in bursts (such as once per day). By the time the data is collected, collated and analyzed and someone notices it would be far too impractical to be used as a security system. TLDR; Don't worry about turning the lights on. The chance of someone analysing small fluctuations in power demand for security purposes is infinitesimal.

The circulating air is cleaned / purified by the water of those sprinklers. It's for ventilation. You can add additives to the water so the system works more efficient. Second, the water cooles the air off. The heat is transferred from the air to the water, and then the water can cool off in deeper underground tanks. You take the thermal energy from all the generators, electronics, peoples breathing.. out of the air, to the water and then finally out to the relatively cold outside underground surrounding. Of course it's not a filter like you'd use to clean contaminated outside-air, but much more a system to keep the air breathable and safe to use for a longer period of time.
