Daitō Ryū Aiki-jujutsu was founded by Shinra Saburo Yoshimitsu (also known as Minamoto no Yoshimitsu), a warlord of the end of the Heian era (under emperor Seiwa). The school was then transmitted through the Takeda family.
Takeda Sato Kunimitsu, who used to serve the Daimyo of the Aizu clan, Ashina Moriuji, was entitled lord of an estate called Miike in the present Miyazaki prefecture, and inherited the school Daito Ryu.
Thus, the Daitō Ryū’s origin dates back roughly 900 years, but it was openly taught for the first time at the end of the 19th century by Takeda Sōkaku. One of his most famous students was Morihei Ueshiba, who later founded Aikidō.
There are 2884 techniques without weapons in the Daitō Ryū’s curriculum.

What are you talking about? This is real bullshito, I apologize for the insult. However this is the real aikido, which is not a martial art, but only a sect with gymnastics. In any case, there were shown good techniques that should work in theory. But in practice ...

@@Le_Rappel_des_oiseaux Your ignorance shows your lack of knowledge of traditional martial arts. Aiki Jutsu and Aiki jujutsu are 16th century battle filed arts of the Samurai, they are not aikido which was developed in the 1930's because of the ban of practising traditional martial arts in Japan. These techniques on display in this video were developed through the art of Kenjutsu, the art of the sword and were put into use when you were attacked and unarmed in real life situations facing death, sometimes by multiple attackers with weapons. Not in a ring with rules. Traditional Japanese Jujutsu which is very similar to Aiki Jutsu and shares it's origins, is the martial art to which BJJ has come from. While it may look like gymnastics to you, the techniques for joint locking and immobilising are very technical which requires an ukemi to prevent serious injury.

@@ambulocetusnatans будь это так,вы бы не тратили своё драгоценное время на мой комментарий :) А теперь внимательно посмотрите на последние "ваза" - демонстрации Уэсибы не напоминает?Да,в начале это действительно похоже на дзюдзюцу/джиу-джитсу(называйте как хотите,сути не изменит),однако потом,это всё больше начинает походить на фарс,особенно когда о-сенсей раскидывает толпу из 3 человек своим "Айки" XD Вам самим то не смешно верить в такую чепуху?Или вы тоже из этой секты? P.S.: ничего не имею против Дайто-рю в целом,однако в данном случае я был глубочайше разочарован.

Ridiculous... The original dojo-storming practitioners of the past would be rolling in their graves at the sight of this nonsense. There are vague hints of true technique in here, but it's buried under theatrics and a complete lack of practical application. Flipping two people over at once is supposed to be realistic? I feel it is a disservice to the old tradition and its masters to leave Daito-Ryu in this dilapidated state. Bring back sparring and competition. Challenge other styles. Is this sad reenactment all that's left of this once potent art?
