@MrB4math

You can take the reciprocal, but the negative exponents inside the parentheses would stay negative; you would have to take more reciprocals. Notice how much becomes positive by using the power property. Thanks for the time reference.

In 11:42 when we reversing fraction for clearing negative sign of exponent, and then when we reverse again to multiply fraction i though we need to add the negative sign back because we are reversing again. But i see reversing for the multiplying does not change the sign of exponent.

The negative exponent means "take the reciprocal," so that means to "flip" whatever it is "attached to." Thus, you should flip everything in the parentheses, and that makes the exponent positive. I hope this helps.

Regarding problem #2 (14:20) can you further explain why you can keep moving the -5 from numerator to denominator and then to numerator again? Thanks
@MrB4math
@MrB4math 6 жыл бұрын
At about 14:20, I'm flipping everything inside the parentheses, and only the exponent outside of the parentheses changes, from negative to positive. It's the outer exponent sign change which accounts for all of the movement inside the parentheses. Notice that none of the positive exponents within the parentheses changed (became negative), so likewise, the negative exponent does not change (become positive). Then at about 15:39, only the x with the -5 goes up to the numerator and that exponent then changes; it becomes positive. So each time something moves from top to bottom, or bottom to top, that movement is "accounted for" with an exponent sign change. At 23:38, I start presenting #7 and #8, which may be helpful as they have similar set-ups. Thanks for the specificity and time stamp in your question. I hope this is not too wordy.

Sir, in 6 th sum also, you have kept moving the u ^ _ 6from the numerator to the denaminator, as u ^ _ 6 and then multiplied u ^ _ 6 with 3 and again keep moving the u ^ _ 18, from the denominator to the numerator, as u^18/125. What is the reason? Can you explain me? Thanks.

@MrB4math

Why not just divide
@MrB4math

As stated, dividing is covered previously. This is to show meaning of negative exponent (take reciprocal), and zero exponent (result is always 1).

do you really have to underline the number?... i can see it..
@MrB4math
@MrB4math 6 жыл бұрын
I do appreciate your comment, because others may feel the same way, but to the best of my knowledge, there is no point in the video where I merely "underline" a number. I put fraction bars under numbers or variables when necessary, which is fairly often when working with negative exponents. If you mention where in the 32 minute video you first see the instance to which you refer, I would be happy to elaborate on what I'm doing, or perhaps I can change it if it causes confusion.
