Thank you! A very good and pedagogic explanation of the difference between normalising and limiting and why to avoid GarageBands built-in normalisation and use a limiter on your master track instead.

Top notch and yes it's really helpful to be reminded about this steps. So if i get it right? 1. Put a limiter on. Adjust the volume. 2. Save it as a small reference file (Mp3) 3 Then save it as wave file without limiter that you then can open in GB without distraction from other tracks and then adjust and match the volume if you for example do an album. I really like that part that just having a wave file with your song that you can't get in and mess with. It's a mental thing i guess that it feels more complete when you can't touch and change the tracks. Really good advice and so smart! Thanks boss! You always hit the right spot! 👍👍

I am way too late to comment probably but I have to say this whole thing is blowing my mind! I had no idea how impactful the exports were until I exported at highest quality (iTunes plus or whatever) and then took that audio and uploaded it to sound cloud. It sounded different in the gb app, sounded different listening to the file, and when I uploaded it to sound cloud so much more of the treble came out that I wasn’t looking to have! I’m wondering how to prepare exports for being uploaded to different mediums like KZbin vs SoundCloud, which export option would be ideal? Great video topic dude as always thanks for taking the time to explain this stuff, especially for free.

Great video! Why do we turn OFF the Limiter when we export it for mastering? Will we be putting a Limiter on the master track that serves the same function?

Very helpful.😁 Thanks. Questions... *I still don't understand the "attack and release" times of the limiter? *Explain the differences between "compression" before/after EQ in the master track settings? Is it ok to use a limiter to push the master compressor like a gain plugin .. ? Great work. Love your stuff.. keep it up!😀

Thanks man! Quick follow up question so I can best answer you- what DAW are you using? Logic? (I ask because GBs limiter doesn’t have attack/release)

@@TheBandGuide im using 2010 garageband, it has old plugins... its doesn't have much in the master section either. Only one plugin choice. Then a eq. Then Comp. The limiter is quite easy-to-use but it distorts quickly.

I do have a small to ask, since garage band on IOS doesn’t have to option to take off normalizing when merging tracks, what do you think I should do? Should I use limiters for each individual track prior to merging them all into a single file?

Hey man I hope you can help me. I’ve restarted, I’ve re installed. I’ve tried everything. I have been trying with my friend to play to his drum track. So I dragged in his wav audio of him playing drums. Then the input for my guitar became buggy, really quiet and only picking up the spikes when I play to hard. I’ve deleted his tracks off my Mac too and still

why shut off the limiter before you export it to wav? Won't that lower the volume ?

I was wondering this too. The video doesn't show any adjustments made after adding the limiter, just turning it on. Doesn't turning it off before exporting just add up to never having turned it on?
