I remember being at this game as a 10-year old like it was yesterday, I’ve always told people this story but never realized it was on KZbin. This was one of the angriest sports crowds I’ve ever been a part of

Little kid in the dugout next to Andres Galarraga at 2:00 turned out to be a pretty good ball player... and 2023 Home Run Derby winner.

If we had today’s rules (to appeal calls), Vlad would have had his 40-40

Well they always had good crowds on opening and closing nights. This was the last game of the season. (At least the final home game)

Meh, this was potentially their last game ever (my parents took me to this game thinking the team was going to move that winter). I don’t think this is really an accurate representation of Expos attendance.

@@ColeNollavook I agree, especially in that Era, however from their beginning in 1969-1996, the Expos used to draw big crowds. The 1980's though mid 90's was especially good, mostly. They used to outdraw the Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox. When Claude Brochu bought the team in 1991 he immediately showed that he wasn't going to spend money on the team. Yes, they were very good for several years after that, but by the late 90's the fans stopped caring. Jeffrey Loria bought the team after 1999 and really drove the nail into the coffin with his lies and deception. Then he did the same thing to the Marlins. Montréal was a great baseball city. It still is. To have a successful team you need an owner who cares about the fans and winning. Not the bottom line.

It wasn’t. Marquez also ruled a ball that cleared the right-center field wall (that bounced onto the field) a ground rule double the day before (which took away Vlad’s 40-40)

@@patrickhagan9382 Regarding the strike 3 call in this video of game 162: Yes, it was the correct call, ive seen different angles, and Vladdy did swing. HOWEVER, if youre the umpire, you must call that a non-swing, because no one would have cared if it was a swing. Its the final game of the season and both the Reds-Expos are not playing for anything, so give Vladdy the non-swing-call, so that he can have another chance to hit that home run. As for the home-run-double call, the day before on game 161: Ive seen many different replays and I could never get a definite view of all the replays. HOWEVER, if youre the umpires, just give Vladimir that home run call. No one would have cared at the end if the wrong call was made by giving Vladdy the home run. Just give him the home run call.
