Aside from being a deeply fascistic policy, forcing ByteDance to sell TikTok would be putting billions of dollars into Chinese hands at the absolute bare minimum. And if ByteDance refuses to sell TikTok, banning TikTok would cost the American economy tens of billions of dollars in lost economic output and hundreds of thousands jobs, again at the bare minimum, and it would be small business and individual content creators who would be impacted the most. It would also serve as an admission of failure and defeat, because it basically says that American companies cannot compete with their Chinese counterparts in the free market, even though China is socialist country under communist leadership. It is essentially conceding that communism is more successful than capitalism in a global capitalist economy. Lastly, it is also important to point out that it is being pushed primarily by the Israel lobby, not by the American public, and that representatives and senators are being flooded with complaints over the legislation. They are listening to Israel, a foreign country, while ignoring their own constituents back at home. It shows that these politicians owe greater loyalty to a foreign power to their own country. In addition to the constraints it places on freedom of speech and self expression, I think it's important to point out that on every level this is a deeply authoritarian and anti-American policy. Even if you don't use or absolutely hate TikTok, supporting this law is taking a deeply anti-American stance.

Oh but it's not because it's no theory. All you have to do is follow the money. And yall know it.

The real "threat" of Russia and China owning popular apps is that Big Brother does not have the final say in the "message", after obtaining ownership, their worried attitude will disappear faster than the speed of light.

NGL, I found it very hard to care about Tik Tok getting banned. This information just made it incredibly easy to care for Tik Tok now.

Kyle, I had just written to you that I agree and a light turned on in my head. I started texting things that I also thought may help others realize the truth. I was almost ready to send it when it was suddenly gone. I have had some small issues with this tablet lately doing weird stuff. Oh,well... Good job!!

The reasoning for tiktok ban is soo silly - look up how many companies have your data RIGHT NOW. If you think they aren't already selling to everyone they can - I have a bridge to sell you...

If they were really worried about privacy, they'd have done something like the GDPR in the EU and not this.

If people can't have TicTok, then politicians can't be 60+ years old, and throw in some Congressional and Judicial term limits while we're at it.

At this point Kyle seems unable to speak about ANYTHING else, other than Gaza. Biden got a new bike for his birthday. Kyle: What about the children in Gaza who will never ride a bike?! Huh Joe?! Talk about "when all you have is a hammer..."

I'm staunchly Pro-Palestine and progressive and still support TikTok being banned.
@letthesunshinethru23556 ай бұрын
Well, then, facebook and all the others, like Kyle said are next. If you really believe in free speech, it's a no brainer not to support a ban. Just get some regulations going within it.

I’d argue that TikTok is a security threat simply because of the subliminal messaging promoted on its platform. Then again, Corps do the same thing here, so, I guess we have to ban almost all social media if we follow this standard. Personally, I think that’s a great idea, but y’know, corporate greed and al that
@bobriquardo53177 ай бұрын
The propaganda is exactly it. European Union and Canada already banned RT News back in 2022 for this same reason. Its American branch got seized for being connected to the war. People didn't care about that. Not a peep. Somehow a media aggregator like TikTok is 'attacking free speech'? Any of the other 191 countries are free to participate in the American social media market. I'm not sure why we want to extend our freedoms to the CCP when they don't return the favor.

TikTok’s parent company ByteDance was founded by Chinese entrepreneurs. ByteDance is a privately-held global company, with roughly 60 percent owned by global institutional investors (such as Blackrock, General Atlantic, and Susquehanna International Group), 20 percent owned by the company’s founders, and 20 percent owned by its employees-including over 7,000 Americans. It is not owned or controlled by any government or state entity
