Does anyone ever get sad when you see a beautiful cover of a book, and then you read the synopsis and are just not interested whatsoever

I always do that! When I go to a book store, I always take pictures of books I want to buy or sound interesting, so I don't take the first book I see with me and keep some control over my tbr....😅

I like the concept of this video. It reminds me that I need to go through my camera roll. I tend to take pictures at the grocery store of the shelf price. Some places I can check the price online from home but places like Aldi doesn’t have that.

I actually do this when I travel and get overwhelmed by the selection in foreign book shops. This way I can think about which books I actually want to get and then come back to the store and buy them.

Same. If I see a book I'm interested in but it costs too much for me I'll take a picture of it as well so I can remember it and come back to it later or possibly find it cheaper online.

I've honestly never taken a photo of a book but that's because I use Goodreads as my wish list essentially. Any book that interests me I mark as "want to read" and if I really want to buy it down the line I move it to a "wish list" tag so I can refer back to it when I'm book shopping! That works for me personally! Honestly, adding some books to my lists from this video, a lot of the ones you snapped pics of sound really interesting! Also I LOVE Kinokuniya for finding books but purchasing there... kinda yikes lol. Mine near me is pretty small in a Mitsuwa though which I kind of love since the building has a food court and the boba shop I used to work at! Look at books, buy some boba... a perfect day

I read "The Haunted Bookstore" in light novel form! And I really enjoyed it! I think it's more of a heart-warming fantasy than eerie and spooky. The book title of the English version is a bit different in nuance from the Japanese version, so I think there are quite a few people who think it's different from what they expected. This may be the difficult thing about translated works.😓

I didn’t like the haunted bookstore either. I was really disappointed because I had high hopes for it but we barely spent anytime in the bookstore. Another reason is because it had some animal cruelty and I just didn’t want to continue. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Hi, I am a bookseller and I hate when people take pictures of the books ! Why ? Because they are stealing my work. Do you think the books came here by magic ? No. They are there because I have chosen them, curated them. Thus, if you take a picture to buy them elsewhere, you are stealing me. I understand the issue of pricing. I am French and, in France, a book has the same price everywhere. Yes, even in this gateway to Hell that is Amazon. No special sales, no discounts (we have to wait 3 years without having ordered a book to be able to discount it), no nothing. We have second handed bookstores where prices are "free" and if you take a picture of my work to buy in them, so be it. But it still is annoying. Of course, I am exaggerating and even if I'd rather be seeing you buying in my store a book I have chosen (for you, yes), if you end buying that book elsewhere, so be it (unless it is Amazon, that is, and I will know and send the Bookstore Brigade chasing after you). It was just a reminder that bookseller is a job and that we are working to suggest and present great books in addition to bestsellers and trending ones. We are not algorithms or grade averages (averages on Goodreads (Amazon again) should not guide you on your reads, critics should), we are professionals and we know better than you 🙃

i was a bookseller for 2 years and fail to see how taking a picture of a book to reference later is any different than someone adding the title on goodreads or storygraph. there's always more books in a bookstore to want then people can afford in one trip, so of course they're gonna want a way to remember the title when they're in a place financially that they can access the book later.
@bluesey-18210 ай бұрын
this is such a weird take. and honestly pretty entitled. to tell people they can't keep a list of books they want (however that list takes shape) when they don't have the money to spend on all those books in the moment is weird. our job as booksellers isn't to judge how people spend their money or how they interact with books. it's not theft that someone didn't spend money in your store if they're not leaving with a physical item in your inventory
@Matt_IsaBird10 ай бұрын
The photos he took are usually in big box book stores that could care less if somebody buys one book or not.
@BaileeWalsh10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I agree with the previous replier on that being a weird take and the other things they mention. I get if it annoys you because if you're curating the books in your store, in a way you want credit. But it isn't *stealing.* Also, you don't even know why someone could be taking a picture. Maybe it's a book their friend/family member wrote or published. Maybe they are inspired by the cover design. Maybe they are the cover designer. Maybe they think a friend would be interested in the book. Maybe they are also a seller, curator, personal shopper, whatever. Etc. Readers are curators in their own right even if it's just for their own personal library. And saying, "we know better than you," is also strange and... kinda not true... You can guide, you can suggest, you can inform about books and let others know about titles and authors they're unfamiliar with. But at the end of the day the reader is going to have their own experience and thoughts on a book.
@eskow061610 ай бұрын
@@BaileeWalsh A lot of improbable "maybes" for people who just want to remember a book to buy at another time. Is it evil ? No. It is using expertise for free. Is it fair ? Not really in my opinion but I don't have a definitive jugement. When you go to a restaurant, you don't go to film the chief making a dish to replicate it. Even less if you are another chief. As I said, I was exaggerating. Why ? To remind that bookseller is a job that requires work. It is not just picking whatever book and displaying it on shelves (use tables, they help selling better by the way). But it is mostly a fun work, you all should be jealous. My message was kind of tongue in cheek but I guess I am not fluent enough in English. And of course my last sentence was a joke, there is a smiley at the end of it.
