Honestly, not saying its always neccesarily healthy, but I feel like these spaces (VRchat, Second Life etc) just attract a lot of lonely and (potentially) mentally ill people looking for some kind of place to belong and find companionship. I can understand the appeal of wanting to have an escape from reality, and as long as what you're doing isn't harmful to others, illegal and/or predatory, then I don't have any problem with it, even if its not for me. Some of the people you talked to seemed pretty nice at least. It is cringe worthy thinking about how ignorant parents just let their underage kids hangout in these online spaces tho, those Phinease and Ferb kids were too pure.

⁠I can assure you that half of the furry fandom is not composed of predators. Predators however get the bigger media attention, and therefore are seen more often. It’s like how the people who shoot up schools are always seen as “the quiet kid.” Most kids who are quiet simply just avoid school interactions. But because media has shown an amount of them to be school shooters, that’s the connotation. I myself am not a furry, but I know a lot of them, and the grand majority is pretty chill. Of the hundreds I have met, only two of them have ever been confirmed to have been predatory in any way.

I've been playing VRChat for a good long while now and this video is therapeutic for me. I'm one of the few normal VRChat players, I'm always making fun of people for pretending to have disorders like DID, for their general weirdness, etc. but stuff like that is normal in VRChat. As gross as it is, I gotta play devils advocate for the furries a little bit. A lot of them are actually just normal people in the real world and have good paying jobs. Furry suits on AVERAGE cost about $3,000 and have high upkeep and cleaning cost. Not to mention, the suits are very heavy, especially when you wear them for hours at different conventions. So a lot of furries are actually pretty fit too. I'm not in any way associated with their community, I just find it very interesting and a bit terrifying that these people are completely normal outside of their hobby.
