Love her!!! As a survivor of three troubled teen programs in three different states including Wingate wilderness Utah, CALO Missouri, and Clearview Horizon Montana. Thank you for sharing and spreading awareness. I see you survivor. 🖤 wingate in Utah is shut down now but they have more than one wilderness program and I believe they recently opened a branch off program.

your past sounds like mine. My parents had a bad divorce, my dad checked out and my mom went through a depression although hers was more destructive as she left me to fend for myself for days at a time. She was out hunting men and drinking and would hardly come home. My brother was older and could take care of himself and he had a car. I was depressed, I rebelled too. My mom would take me to therapy as a punishment and would always try to get me committed for doing dumb stuff like shoplifting. She would get pissed when the therapists told her it was HER and not me. I know they looked into trouble teen things and boarding schools but my parents couldn’t afford it. I was grateful for that.

Whenever I watched Scared Straight (like, twice before I never touched that thing again) I ended up thinking "... Man I don't care if one of the inmates murdered ten people; don't treat the adult prisoners like this. Especially don't treat teenagers like that." Kids were getting sprayed with high pressure water and shit, like, that show just blatantly displayed prisoner abuse like it's funny and normal. 10:13 She said they weren't abusive, and then went on to describe... abuse. Neglect is abuse. Isolation is abuse. "You have to tutor yourself" is abuse. Not allowing your child to have friends is abuse. Also got reminded of the fact that one of my required reading books as a teenager was actually about the romanticization of the TTI. It starred a boy who got left out all alone in the Alaskan wilderness as punishment for a crime and literally almost died, and this was portrayed as a good thing. 25:09 Literally imagine trusting strangers more than your own child when those strangers are telling you not to believe your child is being abused by said strangers. Like... If you actually love your child, you do not believe the stranger in this situation.
