Funny how important all the options are on a car when a dealer is selling to you...but when the dealer is buying they are apparently meaningless 😅
@chrisg609126 күн бұрын
The retail price is influenced by what optional extras are installed. A base model sells for less than an equivalent luxury version of the same car. What you’re watching is two dealers haggling. At the end it is revealed the selling dealer is seriously underwater on the car & has no room to move on price. The sales manager can make the final call whether to take a loss or not. I think this vehicle was merely being sold on a commission basis for a ln owner judging by what is being said. In that case they can’t sell for less than the owner wants. Their hands are tied

As soon as I saw $58k for the 2018 rs3 I knew that this was not wholesale prices these are general retail price
@chrisg609126 күн бұрын
When the dealer auctions opened to the public it was game over. The term ‘wholesale’ became meaningless because Joe Bloggs can now run to the auctions & merrily bid the prices up to retail & beyond - on a vehicle with NO Rego, NO pink slip/rwc & NO warranty.
@georgepappas46283 ай бұрын
I was a used car sales manager for many years and buying from wholesalers was mostly a waste of time as they were asked close to retail. Occasionally, you would get a good deal if you built some repore with them or they had the car for too long.
@chrisg609126 күн бұрын
Wholesale stopped being a thing years ago when the auctions got greedy & threw the doors open to the public. Cars with no rego or statutory govt road worthiness papers are bid to retail & well beyond by the Clueless. Dealers adjusted by accepting all prices are retail then adding their margin to cover their costs. It drove prices through the roof but hey, the auctions are laughing all the way to the bank

Many Korean cars are also a big risk. There are so many ongoing recalls with Kia and their engine failure issues are a real worry. I know that they are not bad cars and certainly a used Kia is a long way better than a new MG for example. But we still need to be cautious of a used Kia.

I don’t know about Melbourne but in Brisbane reputable dealers buying & selling amongst themselves don’t intentionally misrepresent cars. If it’s offered for sale in the $20k price range it’s assumed to be ok. If a buying dealer discovers something bad it’s not unusual for the selling dealer to just take the vehicle back and refund. Much more common is a retail customer lying/misrepresenting about a trade in car or buying a car and blowing it up & lying to claim warranty
