I just used AI to do the translation. Here you go: The Bernard Buffet exhibition is the first retrospective organized in a museum not only in France but worldwide. It's the first time an exhibition reviews the entire career of Bernard Buffet. For some years now, this artist has piqued the interest of many young artists and has reentered the contemporary art debate due to the strangeness of his painting and a certain fascination. The exhibition is a retrospective and covers Bernard Buffet's entire production since 1946. The first room presents works he created at 18-19 years old. The second part, from 1956 to 1976, is called "The Fury of Painting" because we wanted to show Buffet's frenzy for creating art. He lived only for painting. The third part is titled "Mythology" because the artist began painting grand themes like Dante's Inferno or Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. The exhibition ends with his final series, "Death," created in 1999 with the intention to be exhibited in 2000, knowing he wouldn't live to see the new millennium and would end his life before then. There are many highlights in the exhibition, including a series of self-portraits where Buffet depicts himself as a painter, reminiscent of how Poussin or Dürer portrayed themselves. In the room we're in, there's a large painting called "The Crucifixion," a masterpiece from the early 1950s. Nearby, there's a portrait of Pierre Bergé and a triptych called "Horrors of War." The wall behind me shows Buffet's sensitivity and his interest in natural sciences since childhood, with paintings of a flayed fish, a flayed ox, insects, and women depicted in poses reminiscent of insects like grasshoppers.

This was obviously a very good exhibition: but of all the French artists working in the postwar period Buffet still strikes me as the least interesting.
