It's massively important if you want to meter from somewhere you are not focussing from. I.e meter from a white shirt at +1stop, lock exposure, focus on the face, compose, shoot.

I use exposure lock under certain circumstances. If shooting a concert or events where lights are flashing and the light is changing I can meter a specific scene to balance my overall exposure. Then all I need to do is concentrate on my focusing and composition.

dunnymonster Sounds like you use it like I do.

Magallon Yes indeed, I find particularly with mirrorless cameras, the EVF will show exposure changing as I pan left to right. Locking exposure maintains my exposure throughout

dunnymonster i use it with spot metering, lock in exposure on a subjects face then click a few shots... will move to another subject on stage, lock in on face, click a few shots... repeat...

Mario here, thanks for the mention. When I started watching, I thought to myself, "I wonder if he will mention my example I listed on Facebook?". Well what do you know. Thanks for all the hard work and free content you put out for us.

Use exposure lock with an EVF all the time on Fuji Mirrorless. Works Great

Great video, thank you. It's not the most often feature I use, but I can say I understand it's value. Sure you agree with me, it is way easier/ faster to use exposure lock in Av mode rather than figure it out the exposure values in M mode. Specialty if you leave M mode with previous values for let's say a long exposure. The time you would take to dial from seconds to say 1/800th, you would lose the right moment to click. I'd like the possibility to customize and change it's function thought. After all, custom buttons are never enough :)

Not going into explanation, it's a great advantage, I use it along with exposure compensation, basically setting my subject to the correct exposure or zone. It's great but you need to know your camera pretty well and what zone you want. My big mistake forgetting to remove exposure compensation, my camera leaves it set until you remove it which means I'm in too much of a hurry.
