Is there an island called Gran Canaria ? My grandfather used to say that his father was a Guanche, from La Palma, Gran Canaria. His parents moved to Puerto Rico. Both died when he was a child. He was brought up in a Convent in Puerto Rico. This was around the middle of the XIX century. He was the best grandfather you could wish for. A gentleman, hard working, responsible and honest individual. He married my grandmother in an arranged wedding. He was related to her, but I don’t know how. He probably had some relatives in Puerto Rico, but I never met them. He left the convent when he was 16 years old, which was the age to leave. He became a member of La Guardia Civil in Puerto Rico. He was 8 yrs. old when his father died. He was younger when his mother died of complications during child birth. She had given birth to a girl. No one ever visited him at the convent. He used to call the place a convent but could have been an orphanage. On his father’s death bed, his father sent for the priest and turned over him to the Catholic Church. He had a big farm and told the Priest to use he harvest to support the boy. When he would be 16 yrs. old he would recuperate the land. He never got the land back. I am not looking for the land. We have done well financially in U.S.A. This is one of the many abuses that orphans went through in Puerto Rico At least he was not sexually abused. He was grateful becausethe nuns were nice and taught him math, reading and writing. I am looking for his genealogy. His name was, José Ramón Nieves Pérez. He lived in Quebradillas and Isabela, Puerto Rico. He never met hi sister who was given away to a relative because she was a newborn and had to be breast fed. My later generations have married into other cultures here in New York. I am preparing genealogy for them.

At first I actually subscribed, but then when I saw those continuous annoying popups asking me to subscribe, I unsubscribed straight away. Your video is very interesting and at the same time very unpleasant... why would I want to subscribe? To get more of these? No way!

Steepest island in the entire world!

Definitely overrated. They call it the 'pretty' island but Madeira is MUCH prettier! Plus the "beaches" are all small and dirty! The sand is like mud and full of rocks and stones, which is bad for walking on. Plus the sea is not as blue here as in Fuerteventura or Lanzarote. La Palma is definitely not as pretty as the other, bigger Canaries. Grey sea and ugly dirty beaches.

La Palma has the nicest habitat, but I see now that Gran Canaria is the most interesting of the Canary islands. The other ones only have a couple sites that are worth visiting. Gran Canaria on the other hand, I feel I could spend a couple weeks on and not run out of things to do.

Madeira it’s worth, but it doesn’t has a good beach not sand. In la Palma it’s los cancajos, puerto naos, tazacorte in Santa Cruz de la Palma the new beach, in funchal I didn’t find a beach. Each one are beautifully. I’ve been in both island similar in landscape, but madeira it has more populations.

But as soon as you venture into the rain forest and up the volcanic land a ape it gets more gorgeous. I'm taking it you haven't been to the world's largest observatory on the top of the volcano.
