Można by się pokusić o zalanie w nowej płycie szczeliny pomiędzy płytą a obudową BGA w celu uszczelnienia i zapobieżenia utlenianiu.

Just a heads up for anyone watching this video in 2018, Reballing does not fix this issue. It's a temporary band aid for a much bigger issue. The real issue is inside the chip itself. The chip gets permanently damaged due to excessive heat, caused by poor cooling. There is no fix for this. The only thing you can do is replace the thermal paste under the heatspreaders and hope that no permanent damage has been done to the chip.

Don't bother. It's not the reballing but the reheating of the CPU that fixes it. Just heat it at 125 degr for 10 miniutes will have the same effect. It's not the connection to the board but the waver to the pins that's the problem.
@tillmanadkins7135 жыл бұрын
@@sticky170 ROHS complient solder requires higher and higher temps to reflow each time you do that. It should be replaced with leaded solder in accordance with US Air Force Policies to insure substainment.
@sticky1705 жыл бұрын
@@tillmanadkins713 you're missing my point. It is not the reflow oud the cpu contracts to the motherboard that fixes the problem. It's a cheap cpu and reheating the cpu temporarily fixes the internals. But ends up breaking again as it is a shitty quality to begin with.
@Djbiohazard19915 жыл бұрын
@@sticky170 Usually, there isn't any problem with the IC itself. The 7th gen game consoles all relied heavily on ROHS solder. Guess what? All of the consoles in that generation have issues, despite having different BGA IC's. It's usually a cold joint under the chip, which heating sometimes does "fix", but only for a little while. It's still the old solder that caused the issue. Reflowing in this case is a temporary fix, and reballing (what's shown in the video, and suggested by Tillman Adkins) is to replace the leadless solder, and replace it with leaded solder. This will break ROHS compliance, but it will give better than new results.

the pattern that person was saying is called "BGA Stencil template" In PS3 you need a specific stencil template on certain model;s, on 90nanometers GPU all phat should have the same template, some Slim PS3 had 90nm but some of them are smaller now so you need a different stencil template for that too.

@lazys3m6 жыл бұрын
@ExpressITpl6 жыл бұрын
Pozdrawiam.
@michacyber56096 жыл бұрын
@jedrula775 жыл бұрын
Konieczny wręcz niezbędny warunek to idealne oczyszcenie przestrzeni pomiędzy PCB a obudową chipu. Inaczej reflow możne nic nie dać a narobić bałaganu. Taki chip ma określoną ilość takich cykli a samo czyszczenie ze starych kulek też go nagrzewa. Później wstawienie nowych i znów cykl tym razem mocniejszy. I później wlut.

@jm036Ай бұрын
No, leadfree solder BGA is what everyone thought it was for an eternity and even today I see people spouting this nonsense. They don't break very much, you need a lot more mechanical stress to break it. In the PS3 community maybe 3 years ago everyone got convinced it was actually the rather unique power filtering capacitors used, which may have a shorter than usual lifespan but its not THAT bad. Really it's the connection of the silicon die to the interposer, which was especially brittle and reinforced with an epoxy that went soft at operating temperatures, the heat from reballing could make this connect again for a few months but there isnt any permanent fix. The "paper trail" was always there, Nvidia was hit by a big lawsuit for this, some research would have saved a lot of time and effort.

The temps required to melt the solder are far beyond the temperature the package was developed to withstand. Than again they had to do this same thing to get it on so I find it odd. serwis który ci zrobi reballing.

is it ok to take the gpu/cpu without heat shield? cause I already have take the heatshield to change the thermal paste between! do I have to stick the heat shield back on the chip in order to unsolder the chip?
@geoper26 жыл бұрын
But if you use kapton tape doesn't it prevent heat from transferring to the chip below?

I have 3 models of Backwards Compatible and I asked a local shop to do a reballing to them he said it's not worth it . It will fails after couple days. I asked him you talking about reworking like heating them ? He said all 4 usb models always fails once the YLOD comes even if you do rework with heat or reballing it will give the same result ! . Is this true?

Not really no just they break easily because they don’t cool proeprly so use a mod to increase the fan speed and it’ll increase the live off it

Nice video ... but only used BGAs need reballing. Why would you unsolder, reball it and resolder the same part? :)

Do you have to remove the battery? The battery has been removed (left center at 2:40).

Thank you for showing this video, I have some doubts, the flux beyond what other products you use (that tape you use to clean the weld and the liquid that gets on tape) how the balls are attached to the chip before heating? Ebay saw in the grid and the balls to be sold, but the other products do not know which ones. Many thanks for your attention.
