Preferably apply at least 30 days before it expires. Just cause it’s costly and challenging to restore your status even with the 90-day grace period. 😊

Hi Rachel, I hope you notice this. We really need help. My wife is the SP and I am the OWP, the school gave the LOA to my wife in February 2023 and got our application and visa approved on June 2023 for both SP and OWP. But on July 25 2023, one month before fall intake, the school withdrew their offer to my wife and told us to look for a new school. Our question is, since it will be impossible to find another school that has a slot for fall intake at this time (ECE program) . We are planning to move it to winter intake. In that case, the validity of the wife's study permit will be 1 semester short and the same as our visa. We don't know what would be the procedure for this situation. We are still in the Philippines as of now. Is there any office here in the Philippines that we can go to and seek advice for this situation? Thank you. 😢

Hi Rachel - Thank you for posting insightful videos. One quick question: My study permit and program (both) are expiring on Dec 31, 2023. I didn't get 3 months grace period from IRCC (as I have deferred my intake, but IRCC issued study permit based on original intake instead of deferred intake - as a result, coincidently date of study permit expiry and program completion are falling on same date). I checked with my college which will issue transcript in Jan-24 (by that time my study permit would get expired). Should I apply for a study permit extension so that I can apply for PGWP in Jan-24 on valid student status. Thanks for your time and advice. Much appreciated.

Hey Rachel, don't I need a valid passport to be in Canada at any point or is that just to enter Canada? Let me explain: My passport is gonna expire in September of 2025 which is right at the beginning of my 3rd year of study. So say I apply for the study permit extension before the study permit expires, but my passport is still gonna expire while waiting on extension approval, because I have to wait until the passport expires before I can even apply for a new passport. Isn't that a problem???? Or can I renew my expired passport while still in Canada AND while waiting for extension decision on Maintained Status? I hope I explained the question right😅 I guess what I'm saying is, do I have to renew my passport BEFORE applying for the Extension so they can put the Extension expiry date to a date within the new passport, OR will they just extend the study permit to the end of my studies even if I provided the OLD passport that's gonna expire soon in the extension application, given that I'm GOING TO get a new passport before the end of my studies? The thing is I'm wondering because I have to wait until the passport expires before I can apply for a new passport, so if they want the new passport I wouldnt be able to apply for extension before the study permit expires right?? Idk, sorry this question is so long. I just have a lot of questions. Immigration is so complicated😅 😅

Oh that’s a tricky one but I totally get your concern! If I were you, I’d renew your passport first, since your study permit and extension will only go as far as your passport’s expiry date. So if you can renew your passport beforehand, that will give you peace of mind for your SP extension application! 🤗♥️

As long as your temporary visa is still valid or you have an electronic travel authorization, along with your PGWP - you can travel and come back to Canada!
