The noise on the flight deck with 18 TBMs, F6Fs, and SB2Cs taking off. No wonder me dad couldn't hear much.

My father was a turret gunner on a TBF Grumman. Some of his tales are precious to me since he passed away last year. I really miss him. He was always everybodyes friend.

It's funny how those jets in the background look older than these TBM Avengers. The WWII birds are a timeless beautiful design.

My dad was a radio operator in TBMs at the end of the war. Took him to one of the earlier reunions in Peru (2016 I think). First time he’d been around one since ‘45. He made a beeline to the back door and proceeded to teach the owners about the correct radio setup. They were taking notes.

Fine video. I am from Uruguay, 85. I did see Avengers (and F6Fs) in operation here in the fifties. Our Navy bought them in the US, were based at Capt Curbelo Laguna del Sauce airfield (PDP). I watched them from a hill while vacationing nearby--- noisy machines indeed.

I was there at the gathering because I lived in a town south of Peru. I thought the Avenger was the coolest plane I saw that day. If I served in WW2 for the Navy, I would want to fly a Avenger.

Love these videos showing the old warbirds flying today! But how did any of these planes survive? Thousands and thousands of WWII planes ended up as razor blades and car parts.

You don't really understand how loud a Grumman is until you are near them in person. I was at an airport today getting my medical, and a guy flew in on a TBF. Could hear the engine from inside on the other side of the building, it was that loud. For perspective I was maybe 150 - 175 feet away, and it felt like the plane was right beside the building.

Anyone know what version is the one with the additional twin vertical stabs and their purpose?
@budusaf62644 жыл бұрын
A useful aircraft. After the war many were used as crop dusters and fire bombers. That might account for the stabs. I was there and it was a great show, the parking was free and I don't think you paid to get ineither.
@SoggySoxSaga2 жыл бұрын
The TBM-3W had these structures on it. It was a radar warning version with a huge radome on the belly. Maybe this is one that has been modified. The Fairey Gannet has these structures also.

All turbines should be shut down whenever a formation of round engines is flying over. All that prop music drowned by jets. Sacrilege.
