I think it's more of like you can only hear it when the extraction is 4 minutes cause it takes time to get to this part, and the extraction is only 4 minutes on the highests of difficulties so you really feel the struggle lol.

Pelican 1 takes all of 5 seconds to drop your mech (it explodes on touching the ground), but takes fucking 4 minutes to arrive at extraction. Man must actually want us dead, lmao.

I love how triumphant this is despite how extraction is often a dire situation. My read is that the helldivers have accepted that they’re probably gonna die on the creek, so they are just proud to have completed their mission and to die for democracy. Extraction is more of a final stand than an escape for them. Then the pelican arrives and the brass/horns disappear for a little about 40s because the helldivers realize that they actually might survive. Even the horns that play when the pelican arrived are not as triumphant and sort of fizzle out into the tension filled segment because they are less certain of their deaths. Basically it goes from glory to survival.

When the shuttle arrives and before you go in, the tense repeating strings makes you second guess dying for a bit.

It’s not diff 9 music, it’s just when the complex stratagem plotting is active. It doubles stratagem and extraction time

The music isn't static too, only the beginning and shuttle arrival is constant. The rest is dynamic and depends on the combat intensity and status. The music is most likely played in layers and some parts are omitted on more peaceful extractions Edit: Actually the tone of the opening is different if you're extracting via emergency extraction too, it's a lot darker and more dire

The extraction theme is actually just a series of musical cues and segments that gets stitched together in real time, with parts repeating if necessary. Only the very beginning and the very end are the same. That's why it's different every time, and it can keep going as long as it needs to.

Usually hits around 15-20 seconds after the drop ship lands regardless of what mission you play. It’s the strings building up and then the brass hitting you like a fucking train. Even when all is lost, all my friends dead, samples lost, I lock the fuck in when I hear it. It itches my brain just right

Wouldn't it be more apt to call this the "Complex Strategem Plotting Extraction theme", as you only get the extended extraction timer from that modifier irrespective of difficulty selected? Because you can get complex strat. planning and therefore this extended extract theme on difficulties below helldive. Edited to be accurate to the actual in-game name of the modifier. Said "planning" instead of "plotting"

The game uses many small clips for this song. I found and put them back together to get a clean version, as recordings of the song in game don't sound very good!
