I was stuck on a bus that morning, on my way to the Lincoln Tunnel, when they stopped all traffic from entering NYC. A whole day and night and more we sat on that highway until they got us turned around (they had men digging and clearing the meridian for us) when all of a sudden 100's of neighbors who lived by the highway ALL CAME OUT AND BROUGHT EVERYONE WATER, SANDWICHES, NEWS..They were our heroes too! I'll never forget those kind, beautiful ppl either! Thank you to all! 🇺🇸

@@michpackfanto say the courageous passengers and flight attendants of flight 93 were “THE ONLY hero’s” is a slap in the face to all the ordinary ppl that helped other civilians escape the towers and instead of evacuating themselves decided to stay to rescue more. Those people were not firefighters or first responders. But they ran back into the building desperately trying to save their fellow citizens. There was a good deal of people on that day that risked and sacrificed themselves for others. The passengers and crew of Flight 93, Betty Ong and Amy Sweeny, Pablo Ortiz and Francis De Martini, Rick Rescorla, the 150 boat captains that voluntarily rushed over to evacuate more than 500,000 people, the people of Gander Newfoundland, etc.

I love how Heather is constantly trying to maintain the discipline of respect for the General's rank but then their shared bond simply as pilots on that day kicks in and she slips into referring to him with his call sign. It's like they're back in their cockpits side by side in those moments. Much respect to both of them.

@@ricksanchez5147no offense, but we all heard the passengers bum rush the cockpit in the tapes. No passengers saw another plane because they were on their phones with loved ones. Someone would have seen them coming. In the tapes, you can hear them getting ready to crash. And did you ever see a plane like that crash that had sped up to intentionally crash? The crash site looked completely in keeping with that scenario. They were going at a ridiculous speed, so it wouldn't be surprising for an engine to come apart. There was a crater where they had hit, and of course things going at that speed and angle are going to create a massive debris field, sending out projectiles everywhere. Frankly, i find it gross that you would perpetuate a known fake conspiracy theory instead of honoring these people.

We met Penny at a small airport near DC before 9/11. This little girl, looks to be 16, pulls up in a pickup, ties her dog to the truck, and heads out to her hand-propped Tailor Craft airplane. It's getting dark but she wanted to get in some touch and go's. We played with the dog while she did a bunch of patterns. Was pretty dark by the time she quit. Turns out this "16 year old" was the F16 weapons system instructor for the Air National Guard. Nicest person ever. Had dinner with her at her friends house. Lost touch over the years but I always think of her on 9/11 and thank her for her efforts. I hope she sees this. We were the couple towing the helicopter. N7064D.

My boyfriend was in the AirForce when this occurred; he was a night crew airchief for KC 135 Type R's. His shift was from 11-7. He had just gotten off work, showered, turned his ringer off and laid down. When he woke up he had over 25 missed calls and his answering machine was FULL. His 1st 3 calls were from a superior in the AF, then 3 calls from me telling him in detail what had been occuring in New York, then all the other calls were from other friends on base, other superiors, and family. 😢 He was deployed by Oct. 30th, 2001, he was a mid-air refueler for F-16's, F-18's and stealths. He was deployed 3 months the 1st time. The 2nd deployment was a few months after that for 5 months, then a 3rd deployment for 3 more months. He was in the Air Force for 4 years, then was in the Reserves for 4 years and attendee college. We are no longer together but hes a great man. His name is Corey. If he sees this post... just know your a great guy and you deserve the world. Thank you for your service. SJS ❤

Like "Lucky" said during the interview, the military doesn't train us to go on suicide missions. But these two had balls of steel, and I'm even honest enough to admit that I'm not so sure if I would've had the resolve to ram my jet into another. Would I have done it? @@deborahbergman3566 I'm getting at the fact that this story has not been properly investigated or vetted for it's accuracy and truthfullness; it's too reminiscant of the patriotic story previously spun by our media before called Saving Private Jessica Lynch. It's people like you, that blindly believe anything without checking the facts - and in this story, nothing so far checks out - as if our entire defense system relied on a Kamikaze mission of two ANG pilots to ram an airliner as if missiles didn't exist then - seriously? Suggest you google Jessica Lynch (Wiki), to see what happened - maybe then, you'll "Grow up" and understand what I'm trying to convey.

yes! Well at the time the cold war had ended and we were told there would never be another great war to worry about because of the "mutually assured destruction" legacy. Most of the world was allied at the time and the major players that were not allied weren't as strong as they are today (China and Russia for example). No one ever perceived small militant groups to be a realistic national threat. The biggest threat going into the 2000s was y2k disaster

In hindsight the attack seems inevitable but at the time no one could fathom such a thing. Only the most twisted minds could have ever thought of doing something like this. Remember the world was a different place then. You could walk right into an airport and go to the gates. Or hang out and watch the planes take off if you wanted. I went to the Northwest counter before 9/11 in 2001 in WTC to change a ticket and they didn’t even ask for any ID. We didn’t know terror then.

A big part of that discontent is we had a president who attempted to overthrow our democracy because he lost the election. And not only was he not instantly detained the same as we would a terrorist, half of the voting populace are trying to help him get away with it. All while he’s publicly stating that if he avoids prosecution and wins the next election that he fully intends on exacting revenge on everyone who has tried to hold him accountable. I don’t think that can be reconciled. Ever.

It’s just unthinkable to most civilians to having that degree of clarity in your dedication to the greater good. Something you‘ll only understand when you are a Policeman, a Fireman, Ambulance personell, Soldier… The believe that you are part of something greater than yourself, and you dedicate all your sweat and tears to protect it and help it grow, and you are indeed ready to sacrifice yourself when you see a clear need for it.
