Stanton has to be willing to increase payroll if he wants Seattle to get behind his team...they are nowhere near the "luxury tax" threshold and are able to sign a significant player. Put your money where your mouth is Stanton, this is boring softball questions and soft PR politics.

I really don't appreciate the question saying the payroll was lower. That was an easy dunk for Stanton to say nuh-uh it's higher. Instead of holding his feet to the coals about restricting payroll which forced Jerry and Justing to move on from those larger contracts he twisted it into that was the plan all along man which wasn't the case. We know the front office was told they would have a larger payroll and then the rug was pulled from underneath them when the offseason began and you guys let him frame it differently without challenging him. I know Stanton would never approove this kind of interview if he couldn't control the narrative but if that's the case don't interview him.

11:12 John, the Royals won the title A DECADE AGO! Not a "Few Years" ago. Also, that Royals team was not undone by "Going All-In", they were undone by a cheap ownership group that refused to pay their core players immediately after they won the World Series!

They really should have been out there wearing this offseason instead of sending Jerry out there to play a word jumble to the media. Wasn't really fair to Scott or Jerry this offseason. Probably too busy waiting on their next metoo-ing from a female employee, been a couple years.

22:58 That's simply an ignorant statement. 21 teams have won the World Series while top 10 in payroll since 1995. 8 teams have won the World Series while outside the top 10 in payroll. Roughly 72.5% of the time teams that win the World Series are top 10 in payroll.

Also when Stanton talks about his son watching the Mariners in DC he is talking about MLB TV which is something that Stanton DOES NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR. It's shared revenue which he then lines his pockets with. Stanton makes sure the fan experience is top notch because he knows if fans spend more money that's more profit for him and then he tries to justify not spending on top free agents because it's not cost effective. No one is asking him to go out and mortage the future. The fans want to see them spend a hell of a lot more money than 140 mil.

Stanton's portion was fairly good. I would have challenged him on why the Mariners claim a market from Bend to Utqiagvik if they're focused on blackouts. It's fairly simple, if you don't want to violate your agreements with Comcast then just don't blackout parts of the country where you can't even get Root Sports! The Mariners should only claim Western WA so the fans outside of driving distance can actually watch the game. It would increase viewership, revenue, and publicity for the Mariners. Other than that, it was good to hear Stanton found years like 2008 unacceptable. I'll take 88 wins and a reasonable payroll over 100 losses for $100 million.

I got to 2:26 and couldn't stand it. The old "our standard is to make the playoffs" bit. I love when he says it doesn't matter if you miss the playoffs by 1 game or a bunch if games and then they bring up the seasons that they were eliminated by a few games like they were a success. If you miss the playoffs and don't have a reaction like Cal did, you are a loser. Just sell the team to someone who gives a crap before you suck the life out of this talented group of young players. We better understand what they are talking about and accept their message lol. If the club someday wins the commissioner’s trophy (worst name of all championship trophies) I will vomit seeing Johnathan being the first one to get to hold it.
