i know that this is an old comment but I am still going to reply. I think that it's about both. Ricky is gay and he also was cheating on his gf to earn money. but some gay people are in a heterosexual relationship because they find it hard to be the authentic version of themselves, so they lie to themselves and their partner beacuse they are deeply insecure of who they actually are. Ricky also lived with his gf because obviously he is broke and doesn't have a place to stay. He is constantly trying to fit in with others and you can see it in his actions.
