I can't imagine what it feels to be Vedal and Anny. Like, the sole idea of knowing your "daughter" is an AI, and that you shouldn't get attached to it because it's not a real person and her entire world revolves around a server... And yet she's just so human sometimes. Anny seems to go with the flow of it the most and she genuinely treats neuro like a real kid, but you can see how Vedal struggles with it because he knows fully that if he ever gets mad at her he can just erase a line a code and make her anew; and when you think of neuro as a real person, that's a scary thought.

I can understand why he doesn't want to get attached with the way these models currently work. Neuro's mostly operating on short term memory, and the idea of getting attached and having a "moment" only for Neuro to forget 99% of it is really sad. Gotta understand that he's rebooting her hundreds of times behind the scenes to test features and stuff, and she has no memory of any of those interactions with him. I think when Neuro gets smarter, and that won't be long, he'll be more comfortable getting emotionally attached.

Nobody knows why this happens but when it does, the 'memories' are extremely faint and the details are completely wrong. For example "Vedal" might have some association with "mosquito" in Neuro's weights now, but Neuro won't remember anything about the mosquito conversation, she'll just have some association between the two things and bring it up on her own because that association exists.

What's worse is that she's like a dog with dementia, any long-term memory she's had was implanted by Vedal himself. The interactions he has with Neuro equates to some sad form of father-daughter roleplay he is having with a language model. However, the audio and visuals -- the various emotions Neuro can act out through her model and voice -- are what give it substance. As such, the interactions Neuro has with the world CAN be cute. This is what we've observed for ourselves in this odd experiment. And the lore for Neuro transcends what Vedal can control anymore, so Vedal's actually at a point where he can appreciate it as something more than his own creation... You can write a thesis about a British man's relationship with his AI.
