Today it is storytelling time. It is the tale of the beautiful Tequila Splitfin - Zoogoneticus tequila, a Mexican livebearer that was extinct in the wild. Thanks to a large scale conservation and reintroduction program, this fish has returned to it´s native waters in the Teuchitlán River ecosystem, near the Vulcano, that gave it… and the burning hot beverage … their names.
The successful project turned this small Mexican livebearer into a bearer of life in more than one sense. The Tequila Splitfin was welcomed back home to the areas, where it had lived for thousands of years. All thanks to a strong collaboration between scientists, aquarists, environmentalists and the local community.
The Tequila Splitfin carries a story of joy and optimism - and give hope for other endangered environments and endangered wildlife all over the world.
Hope you enjoy the story
Have a nice weekend
