I love the way Lea and Cory ALWAYS support each other in interviews. Lea is always saying how smart and good and talented he is, and Cory does the same for her. They were in love even back in 2009, they just didn't realize it yet (IMHO)! :)

People forget that the only reason the overdose proved to be fatal for Cory is his body had no tolerance for it since being in rehab flushed his system of the chemicals. Plus, the fact he did both heroin and alcohol depressed his respiratory system preventing him from breathing. If he just drank or did heroin alone, a high chance he'd be alive (possibly another stint in rehab). He seemed to be a lovely person who tried to do his best to be happy. Will miss his talents!

Yes, thank you for saying that. I wish the rehab had allowed him to be on maintenance meds, like Suboxone. He would very likely be alive today.

You are completely right, Kelly. As a person living in recovery for 10+ years, I have to say that traditional rehabs do a terrible job educating their patients on the dangers of overdose post-rehab. It's like they are so afraid to "go there," as in address the idea that relapse could happen - even though it does during the first year post-rehab for upwards of 60-90%+ of patients depending on rehab, drug of choice, and longevity of addiction, that they just don't cover it at all. Traditional rehabs were also unwilling in 2013 to offer medication-assisted therapy (MAT), even thought these were EBIs. I recovered with the help of Suboxone, which I was able to taper off of about a year later. I'm still sober. That MAT was not even offered to Cory, which it wasn't given he attended Crossroads in Antigua, which is totally 12-step based ("You shouldn't need meds, if you do you are not "really" abstinent," blah blah blah"), was a terrible mistake. There was no reason for him to die. If he'd been sent to a competent rehab, he would still be alive, IMHO. If you'd like to hear from experts who have expressed this view, google Cory Monteith/Maia Szalavitz or Anne Fletcher. Both have written fantastic pieces on this, in particular at the website "The Fix."

@@KristenHammerback-pk5wy thank you for your well-thought response. I agree 100 percent on your statements. I'm proud of you and your recovery. Congrats! I also believe that some rehabs who are strictly steps or too traditional, forget to inform addicts how to properly care for themselves outside of rehab. I believe some medication therapy could've helped as well as personal counseling. Also, he went back home where there were a lot of triggers. I wish all rehabs covered available medicated-assisted therapy, personal counseling, and CBT (Cognitive behavioral Therapy). I have depression and social anxiety. Using cognitive behavioral therapy has been helpful and it can help addicts or anyone in need. I will certainly look up and read the suggestions you gave me! thank you
