@@brindlebriar screaming is a sub-type of singing. There's opera singers. There's r&b singers. There's pop singers. There's country singers. There's rock singers. And there's scream singers. One of the things I like about the non-US/UK shows is how willing the judges are to step outside predefined boxes- the Viking song was stunning but would have gone over like a lead balloon - same with the Mongolian Throat singer- it's like the rest of the world realises that talent and music isn't all round peg in round hole...

Ton of talent and I’m seeing many comments taking issue with why some of these acts were ignored. You have to remember these judges are looking for talent that will gain a huge fan base and be highly marketable. Some of these singers are filling a narrow niche and won’t make a lot of money. They need to fill stadiums, sell records, and gain radio play. Unfortunately much of the talent compiled in this video does not fall into that category.

Little Earthquakes was often described as like reading a diary, so her tendency to make eye contact with the audience makes sense in spite of the “withdrawn” an almost internal quality of the lyrics and sound. It IS internal, but the listener is “reading” the diary so the eye contact adds to that feeling that she is sharing her personal thoughts with you in an intimate way, in spite of being in a crowded theater.
