Take what Rick says with a grain of salt. He's bitter, look at the attention and money the show made, that could have been him in his mind. Not too mention he was producing a reality show, and they always fake stuff. Most of those shows are everything but reality, and with that it's usually the producers who entice or create the drama, not the actors. He's sensationalizing it that's what his job was and is to do. Otherwise he would have told us about Joe illegally killing Tigers when he said oh yeah I seen it and then tells a story about him killing a dying horse. While that's unethical its not illegal and then he literally bases Joes entire personality off that one single story.

Laura Parkinson check out a video by Jeff Lowe called “We Live with 220 lions and tigers”. Jeff and Joe are in a cage with a pen full of very curious tigers. They’re neither sedated or blind. Joe had Jeff’s back the whole time. Joe was definitely not afraid. Just very respectful of the danger. I think Rick was the only down to earth person there but his account is very prejudiced against Joe. For good reason too!

Individual cameras can survive, I'm guessing some cameras that weren't stored on site, or that the crew had in their possession, considering someone is filming the aftermath. The majority of the footage intended for the documentary, ie the stuff that would be incriminating, was stored in backups on site. The stuff stored there would probably be the older footage, that obviously had to be stored somewhere. I think people are being way too literal with a lot of comments, and playing internet detective way too much. All we know is what a documentary told us, and what these people (all of whom are pretty damn sketchy, btw) told us.

It’s called TV Junkie and was shown at Sundance 2006(I think). It documents his drug use and career struggles and family. Poor Tammy what a strong woman, definitely felt terrible for her. Made me hug my wife extra tight tonight as I put her through similar 🤦‍♂️. Drugs are bad, really hope Tammy is doing well cause that’s a great woman.

I have a massive issue with people who think like this. Kirkham was an addict, yeah. He got to the point of suicide before he turned back. He became went around educating people about drug abuse (actual drug abuse btw), tried to make something positive about it. Julie, a lioness who got her arm ripped off by tigers was placed on a back cell, without proper medical treatment. Her little nub was infected and bleeding and she was so used to human attention but was alone so public wouldn't see her....so when anyone came by she would cry and grind herself against the cage. Even though it caused pain she just wanted comfort. Joe beat a tiger cub with a metal pole for being less bothersome than a puppy. It was common practice. The staff bragged about getting away with lying about how often they fed (or should I say didn't feed) the animals. A goat walked around with its brain exposed for days and a horses face had chunks rotted off but they wouldn't give him pain relief so they could feed him to the cats...they left him to die in pain in the cold. Let's not even get into the "punishments" given to animals that misbehave in front of the public. ALL OF THIS IS ON FILM. It's not an "oh fuck Joe for making me look bad" he's been tracked since 2006 for this stuff. The weirdest thing about Joe is how likable he is. I genuinely like how he presents himself, but he is no saint. He has hurt animals. If he was willing to do all that for cost efficiency and presentation why would killing a few tigers he didn't need be so out of character?

There was a different producer there for several years before Kirkham showed up that a lot of the footage is from, the old producer had sold the reality show to A&E but when Saff lost his arm, they canceled it and the old producer left, then Kirkham showed up and tried to restart the other guys work - was there for a year and got kicked out, Kirkham's version of what happened just before the fire and other people's story about their argument vary greatly. I dont know...meth is a weird drug. You get lost in a very odd mindset. Seems honest to me. Have you ever been to court? Its not easy to remember every little part of your life especially on drugs like meth. Sounds genuine to me, like someone got wrapped up in a drug circle, which is easy to do with meth. I live a very professional life, but made some wild choices when younger around bad drugs...around some very sick humans thats hard for me to process now that I was that naive and caught up in it. Let's talk about this. I find it very difficult to believe that both fires were linked to Joe Exotic but in reality the only person who was present in both fires was Rick Kirkham. Also, if all of Rick's footage was burned and no longer exists, how did he have footage to sell to Tiger King producers? I think his footage may not have included all of the "dirt" that he claims so with it no longer existing, he can make it be about whatever he wants. Yes Joe Exotic was wild and ignorant and exposed himself being arrogant, he did this himself so ofcourse it's easy to make up more believable things about him. Add some common sense to what Rick claims, the lady brought her old elder horse to Joe at the zoo to take care of because she couldn't take care of it? No, this sad heartbroken woman brought her elder horse to Joe to be euthanized and fed to the cats because she couldn't afford to have the horse put down and heavy equipment come bury it. It's easy to flip the narrative when your "proof" doesn't exist. I do believe that Joe created a fear for the big cats and that came from the ligers trying to drag him off. Another thing, if Joe was an evil animal murderer who killed tigers at will on camera with no care at all, when that liger was dragging him off to his demise, he would have shot her right between the eyes because he had every opportunity and every reason to do it, but he didn't. Rick is an arsonist who wanted to flee in both situations.

Before taking what Rick says to heart, let's not forget Rick Kirkham is a reality TV producer and as we all know those shows are far from "reality", and it is the show makers who are usually responsible for those spicy controversial bits we see. Billy Bush: "So you had footage of him stone cold killing tigers, shooting tigers in the head?" Rick: "I witnessed it myself, let me tell you a story." Proceeds to tell a story about him shooting a dying horse. So he made a completely false claim that and paints a beautiful picture that Joe was willy nilly murdering endangered species. Then you tell a story that while it does makes him look like a bad person, I'm sure everyone has those moments. But then you literally then hinge his entire personality on that on story. What he did was very unethical, but not illegal, and therefore irrelevant to anything other than the sensationalism. How about a story where Joes is killing tigers for no reason other than he could like you have claimed?

Actually he mentioned it in another interview with ExtraTV and David Spade; The backups were in a safe in the same building that caught on fire. I also heard that he mentioned in another interview that he didn't use a cloud because the internet connection there was so bad that it would be stupid to depend on it, but I have not heard where that came from, but I wouldn't doubt it (remember, they were literally in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma). Well..In regards to Rick Kirkham's words on Joe, please don't be naive to the point of not forgetting that Mr. Kirkhams past is not perfect either, it's my understanding he had a long bout with drugs as well, but let's get past that...he says Joe never messed with the cats unless they were sedated, I watched the complete show several times and that is not what I saw, there are several parts in the series where he handles the cats and they were not sedated, also let's not forget Mr. Kirkham has an issue, a vendetta "a reason" to say the things he says, he lost all his retirement in the fire, and we still DO NOT know who started the fire? and there is footage of what appears to be Kirkham walking through the area at the time of the fire, regardless...he is plainly upset with Joe, and Joe is not here to defend himself, it's very easy to tell a one-sided story, now..... here are my thoughts.....Rick said he shot video of Joe killing a horse and feeding it to the tigers, I just find that hard to believe, why would Joe call in a witness to shoot a video of such an act? and if it were true then you Rick Kirkham are just as bad as Joe if not worse, because you said several times you witnessed Joe abusing these animals and if this is really true then you sir are a POS for not turning Joe in long before this, you stood and watched and did nothing, I want you people to think about that!!!!

icoley I’ve watched it twice and I’ve watched all the KZbin interviews , read everything online there is to read on the subject & have watched most of the KZbin Joe exotic series online from his original reality “show”. You can make your own assumptions from what you have seen. However my opinion after everything I’ve seen and read. ....there is always two sides to every story. He has called himself out for some of the animal “abuse” he regrets now. Most of the ppl close to him besides Rick & Carol , (some of his ex John Finley he’s says good & bad of his past with him ) peta ; have said similar of his character. He’s not all bad.
