I grew up with a hoarder, so I watch videos like to to learn what a normal house looks like. I'm slowly getting my life and house clean and organize. Thank you for videos like this, it's still weird for me to see how people live that's not in a hoard.

I’d put a cushion on that shelf if it’s wide enough, like a window seat. Then a rug and ottoman would leave access to the dormers but look nice!

I love the empty-ish look. But you could definitely warm things up by styling those window shelves a bit. And maybe some textiles like a rug, curtains, pillows or a cushion over in that area.

I have 3 kids and before I had my little girl in September I had decluttered everything in my house. Every drawer, closet, and room was organized and everything had a place. Now I am doing it all over again. It is crazy how much piles up in such a short amount of time.

Leaving it empty for a little bit and then looking at decorating is a good idea. I found after becoming minimal myself I found I could leave a wall without an art piece which was HUGE for me but less is more peaceful. Just let it settle in. Way to go!! 😀👍

Honestly filling up empty spaces like that nook with chairs would just give ME the opportunity to pile things on it and make more of a mess! If you don’t find a need for it maybe it’s just better empty!

Can you fill that nook shelf with houseplants and put a moveable chair there and maybe an essential oil diffuser, and make a pleasant place to sit and read and get vitamin D? That shelf by the window would be perfect for plants!

I had some exercise things lying on the floor against one wall in my bedroom. After I put it away in a different part of the house, I felt uncomfortable with the emptiness of that space. Every time I walked past it, it just felt wrong. Then I went on a trip and stayed in a hotel, which (of course) has absolutely no clutter. When I got home, I was over the uncomfortable feeling. Don't fill up your empty spaces with something right away. Go spend some time in a completely clutter-free space first. Then see if that changes how you feel. I think your room looks fantastic! 💖

very nice declutter and you're so sympathetic, relaxing and fun to watch !☺️ and about your least favourite corner of the room, I'd make it into a reading nook, just put cushions or a single pad on it to make it a bench and hanging shelves above the storage doors. a plant in the corner, blanket into the lower shelves and boom it's a lovely place. I'd loooove to have such a big window sill.

I’m with you! I’ve taken this up for the last three years 🙌🏼 best thing I’ve done for myself and family. Living decluttered adds value to your days! Less “inventory” to be responsible for, think about and arrange. More time doing what you need to and want to do... adds so much value to life!!

Your room looks amazing! I’m still in the midst of my room. My bedroom is a place where I sleep, but it’s a whole lot more. It’s my craft room, my living room... I live with my daughter, son in law, two grandchildren and many pets. So my bedroom plays multiple roles. The last two days have been spent rearranging furniture, hanging decor and organizing, there is still much more organizing to do. The way I’ve rearranged the room has given me two “spaces “, one where I sleep and the other is everything else! I’m so exhausted but more excited to see my life become less hectic and chaotic, now that I’m doing this! Thank you for this series! It’s given me the push I so needed! Donna

You are doing great with simplifying! I wanted to mention something that helped me. Many years ago, I decided that a goal was for my family to each be able to be responsible for their own laundry. So, we all have our own basket for dirty clothes and at age 10 each of my kids learned to wash, dry, fold and put away their own clothes. Obviously, it was a little process of doing each step with them for awhile, but by age 10 they each got it. They enjoyed using a shirt folding thing at first, but now do not need it. They see when their basket is 3/4 to all the way full, it is time for them to do laundry. Thanks for the great inspiration videos!

I've been on my declutter journey for about 2 years now. In the beginning I thought I would just declutter every area of my home and be done with it. As time has passed, though, I've found that it's more of a lifestyle than a one time thing. You really have to stay conscious of what you're bringing into your home, and continue to evaluate and purge the things you do not need to keep. It makes a HUGE difference in managing a household, and being able to stay on top of things. And it has reduced my anxiety a ton. Your room looks great! Looking forward to more of this content!

I have been on a decluttering/minimalism journey for about 4 years and many of our spaces are in pretty good shape. But I find it's a continual process to maintain a declutterd home - especially in a tiny one like our's with our 6 (soon to be 7 people in it, lol). So I am going bact to basics and joining you in a 'deep declutter' again. Excited and inspired by your video. Also, proud of you on the jewlery declutter...that can be so tough to pair down so much!

I would find right size boxes on that nook area, to hold all the nicknacks that end up not having a home of their own. Also a great place of holding stuff like folded blankets. I'd have a sitting cushion with nice fabric and blankets+pillows on the other side and ferns/plants on the other side. A comfy rug too. Then learn and enjoy a book or write a journal for a few lines per day. :)

Hi there, I really enjoyed your video!! I grew up in a verry messy, cluttered household. Either parents blaming it on the other (now that they are divorced, it is clear that they are both very very messy in their own way). Naturally, as any child does, you take on the habits of your parents. So I started going to college in 2015, and it took me till february 2019 to finallllllly get rid of soooo much stuff! I had always been trying to clean and organize, but it was just so much, that you just can't keep up, always moving the mess around. In november 2018 I fell into a deep depression, and for me, february helped me so much! It def was not the cure, but it helped calm the chaos around me. I still call it the "great eviction". Don't get me wrong, I still struggle with messiness in my student apartment, but it is so much easier for me to have a clean-up day. I am now building on forming tidying habits, and still have a corner with all kinds of stuff that need to get sorted and get a home, but it is getting there. I wish you the best of luck with your decluttering experience, and I enjoy following along, experiencing it all over again, and also doing small tyding work. Love from Holland

Also, I think if you put a few plants by the window but a small couch would be super sweet! I know you need to access the storage. You can, if the small couch/loveseat would slide forward. Unless you need to be in them often. If not, that’s an idea😊

My advice is put two chairs in that window nook and books.A spiritual retreat corner?I know you need to access dormers for luggage but I would sacrifice and move chair which takes a moment when bags are needed. It is sterile looking in that area.Ands books are my downfall.🥰🤣You did an amazing job and you are giving me courage to go hard as well in my purging.I am excited about master bath/make up purge.Love you all Angela.God bless you.And thank you for sharing your life with us.🙏🥰💛❣️

Beautiful room & nice job! I would put the hats on that window ledge, move the gray laundry basket to that nook and downsize the huge mirror to a narrower standing mirror in one corner of the nook with some drapy curtains to make it a “dressing area”. If it were me I’d probably put a pretty cut out grate to close off the shelves because I’d rather look at that than stuff in that space.

Awesome, I love it! And I LOLd in "GIRL, same" when you talked about the drywall and construction dust. Years ago I put wood floors into my condo and I swear, every time I opened up drawers and cabinets for MONTHS there would be a thick layer of dust there, hahaha! Love this video!

Sometimes I think we don’t realize just how much mental “clutter” actual clutter causes us. It is very anxiety provoking for me.

My room is incredibly small and there is barely enough space for the things I NEED to keep (I still live with my parents), i cannot tell you how many mental breakdowns I've have walking into me room and seeing clutter

Oh my goodness! I adore you already! Soaking up your decluttering videos as I go through kids clothing currently... but let’s be real, SO MUCH WORK as a mama of 8 also. Looks like you are an adoptive family as well. So fun! ❤️

A hanging chair right in the middle of that awkward area would be fun and functional. You haven’t really shown a before/after so far, so I’d love to see that. As well as a shot highlighting all the things you’re letting go!

I had finished my bedroom declutter a few weeks ago - am now targeting my kitchen, my pantry, my books and my living room and last of all - my sewing room.

One trick we use that might help with everyone dumping stuff in the bedroom is a clutter bin. We keep ours by our stairs, but you could keep it by the bedroom door. If anyone doesn't know where to put something, they can learn to drop it into the bin. Then when the bin is full, you can easily pick it up and distribute the contents to their spots. Bonus for us, if we can't find something it usually ends up being in the bin. I also tend to use it for quick tidies when company is coming, so I can put it all awhile later when I'm not rushing. It has 100% reduced everyone dumping things on surfaces.

That little nook area...could you put a cushion or pillows on it and make a cozy reading area? Sometimes cameras don't show the actual size. That may be an option. Get a nice faux tree with a great pot, a plush throw. Might be nice. Room looks great. I fully agree with no TV. I'm trying to make my room as electric free as possible. Nice work Angie

I’m loving these videos! Thank you for being real and showing the messy, dusty process-it makes this momma feel better, lol. I am definitely going to be decluttering in 2020, and your videos and the checklists on your blog are so helpful and motivating!

Thanks for being soooo transparent!! I did the KonMarie whole house declutter 2 years ago and it had changed my life and my relation to stuff! It took me 6 months. I now discard things more quickly and have learned how to deal with clutter! And trying to teach my kids also. . . We just moved and I have been feeling like I need to do the whole house again in this new space. So I will be following along! Take moments to rest. Don’t rush it. Tackle the hard stuff last (it may be out of order).

I love how you clean with a bath towel. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who does that.
