Making over the breakfast nook of my 1929 Spanish Revival home has taken a few months, but we are finally done! Demoing the existing tile and laying new paver-style travertine tile was the most difficult part, but was the perfect addition to this room. A few coats of paint, a new light fixture, and a bespoke table with five amazing chairs completed the look. And of course I sprinkled in some amazing thrifted finds as decor. Hope you enjoy the finished nook!

I have been a designer for 44 years, I just retired and bought a Spanish bungalow for a retirement last house. It has been fun watching you remodel but here’s a trick, whenever you paint a dark color like a red. Make the primer tinted black and then the red will be perfect with two coats.

I'm not a fan of the café-style curtains, but it's really pretty, especially the frame art... it's so cute. The Italian in me just screamed a little bit when you used the cabinets just for decorations, because I was wondering: and the cookies? Where's he going to put all the cookies he's gonna eat for breakfast? (But then I remembered in the U.S. you don't eat cookies for breakfast xD) Also, you did well changing that paint on the ceiling... when I saw you with that red paint in your hands, I was like: no, I can't believe he thought about painting the ceiling red. Hahaha! You did good trying it, but I feel relieved seeing you changed idea. The floor tiles also make everything look cozy. They reminded me of my grandmother's home in the Italian countryside, floor and walls were all made of stones. She didn't have such fashionable furniture though. xD

Nice job, Drew! I used to shop thrift and antique shops in the 90s for napkins, linens, table runners, and old handmade embroidery products, then used them for curtains. Also, whenever you paint red on a wall or ceiling, use a pink as a primer. Makes the red go on much more evenly and can even eliminate a second coat.

You have won me over to LOVE Cafe curtains. They are so cozy and warm. I also LOVE the contrasts in this room. The chandelier, table and tiles have a lot of mass and texture. The walls are so smooth and creamy. And all that sets off the smooth, dark iron elements. Those chairs are amazing. I would love starting the day with a cup of coffee in such a warm sunny room. For 5 people drinking coffee, I would want a rustic wood lazy Susan in the center with creamer, sugar, honey, preserves and butter pottery ware. Maybe room for napkins or a water jug. Nice idea on the ceiling and you made a good choice. Thank you for showing your whole process including your changes.

I used Farrow & Ball String on my living room walls 10 years ago and loved it. I live in southern Britain and needed a warm tone and String was the perfect chameleon colour, it went with everything. F&B is very much cheaper in the UK than where you are, still more expensive than the usual paints but the dense pigments made it so luxurious. I think you were right to go with Dimity in your space but I’m a little sad you got rid of the red ceiling, it was striking.

The one paint, that you’re questioning is reading green tone to me maybe it’s the red ceiling. I know you’ll make it work I’m here for it but the struggle is real.

Just absolutely warm, inviting, and pretty...and so many clever hacks! If you want to bring the red up, how about a painted medallion for that gorgeous fixture? Or little shades? For a change of season, you could also change the napkin curtain color. I am so loving the inspiration you bring. ❤

It's such a fabulous room Drew. Love what you've done to it. That set of frames is gorgeous and I LOVE the set of mugs with the painted birds. Beautiful.

You could always add an even Larger rounded glass on top of the actual table top to comfortably seat those 5 people 😅 Building in a banquette under those windows would also be a vibe 😮 for that Round table, under those windows for Eating Actual meals is then a very feasible idea >>> Otherwise the top isn't Large Enough for 5 people to eat comfortably ; unless it's purely for bistro style soup & sandwiches, or to be used as a coffee, tea, & biscuit moment or breakfast room. **Larger meals need more space on top of that tabletop for all the things real dining needs for actual unless it's just two or three people. Comfort needs arm space not to mention plate, utensils, glasses & food space on the center of that table 😮 But as a Breakfast room it's cute ❤ very Adorable 😻

Hi Drew! I love the chair reupholstery fabric, and the light airy feel the open chair backs give the room. The table is perfection itself, even if I feel like the chandelier competes with it in massiveness. The shelf styling is beautiful, as are the twisted pulls. I do have quite different taste in art. The red ceiling seemed a bit grand for a breakfast nook, but could have also worked. Overall, a lovely room and very coherent with the adjacent rooms!

I thought the original light fixture would have worked better with the chairs. I'm not a fan of the fixture but overall the room is beautiful.😊
