*The cost for eating healthy on £1 per day on this extreme budget challenge, are per each days breakdown cost & portion.* PRICES ARE BASED ON UK PRICES. •Loaf of bread £1 (approx 20 slices a loaf) 2 slices = £0.20 •Pack of 6 Eggs £1 - £1.45 per pack. 2 eggs per day = £0.32 •Bunch of 7 bananas £0.70. 1 per day £0.10 •Large wholesale sack of potatoes (£0.10 per) •500g of grated cheese £3 (10g portion)£0.16 •Large wholesale Sack of oats (£0.05 per portion) •Small Bottle of maple syrup. (£0.05 portion) •6 ripen @ home Avocados £2 (£0.16 per 1/2) •Tin of baked beans £0.12 (supermarkets own budget version) In this video I rounded figures to the nearest 5p as explained. With a total of £1.05. Without round offs it is £1.16. Which does involve rationing portions. Obviously people with extremely active lifestyles or that are taller in stature, would need to adapt this accordingly. This is just a guideline of cheap healthy ish budget foods 😊 VIDEO DESCRIPTION Food for thought... How to eat healthy on £1 approx per day. If you were to set yourself the challenge of attempting to live on £1 or $1 a day, what would you pick to sustain and satiate yourself? Obviously, this is going to be different for everyone. Appetites, lifestyles, and diets are all different. Also it is a luxury that we can simply discuss this rather than having to live it. I wanted to make this video for anyone out there that is struggling to feed themselves right now. Moreover, feed themselves with a certain degree of nutrition. I think if we have a choice it is not something that should be attempted long term. Maybe it could be done for one month as a short term optimum savings solution as a part of extreme frugal minimalism or frugal living. It is not however something I condone long term as many food groups along with vegetables are missing from this £1 budget. I believe a good varied diet is best for nutrition & vitality. ________________________________________ Here is My Frugal Auditing my life Playlist. I used to eat much like this to get myself out of debt. My additions were foraged green stuffs and fruits for vitamin C - so I grew tomatoes, lettuce, courgettes, spinach and herbs in my courtyard garden in pots. I picked blackberries and apples ( a friend allowed me to clear up her fallen ones) and sorrel and herb robert. It cleared my debt in 2020 by living on £5 per week + direct debit for electric + Council Tax etc. I also used Martin Lewis's site to lower these bills. I hope this helps someone. Also, I now volunteer at a Foodbank- come along if you need help, we are a friendly bunch - often with backstories of being in need ourselves ( which is why we volunteer). We can also point you in the right direction for other help. Great topic for the video, thank you!

Bananas, peanut butter, brown bread, cupboard milk, porridge, butter, eggs, frozen mixed veggies, white potatoes all helped me when I was on a £7 a week budget when my income was only £35 a week waiting for benefits and I stupidly had a £30 a month phone contract.

Rice, veggies, fish, that's what we eat pretty much day in and day out. Cheap, nutritious and sort of kind of yummy!

Can you do this on £1 a day with fish? I couldn’t factor in fish for £1 a day? I suppose its possible if you caught your own fish 🎣 and grew your own vegetables 🥕 😊

@@SagelifeMinimalism We have shops here who sell it cheaper if it's older. Nothing fancy but you can get a good deal if you're willing to hang about a bit and aren't too fussy fussy on what you get (aka lots of skin and BONES!) :P

And veggies we get from a shared plot so there's 4 families working the ground with different veg! It gets more expensive if it's a bad drought year though... >_

I really like these challenges so enjoyed this video. I like the ones Atomic Shrimp does, he forages a lot. My English palate really enjoys baked beans but they cost well over £2.50 a tin (or jar) here so remain a treat for me. A bag each of potatoes, carrots and apples goes a long way, plus porridge oats. Milk and eggs would also be important (our eggs are more like 50p each, but then there are no battery hens in this country, it's all free-range or organic, and worth it to me!). I would rather buy a bag of flour and make my own bread, though fresh plain bread is not too expensive (anything with seeds or other specialities are really expensive in my view); there isn't a culture of the flimsy sliced white here, either, though you can get packaged "toast bread" if you want it. I really appreciate that UK supermarkets do the 99p or £1 special offer fruit and veg, and ours has occasionally started to do that, too. If I can, I will buy several and prep, freeze or preserve to make the most of it, it does take a bit more work but if you're on a tight budget, you need to invest a bit more effort as a rule.

I always get my organic free range eggs from Marks & Spencer and depending on whether they are small, medium or large. A pack of 6 ranges from £1, £1.45 or approx £2. 🍳 🥚 Also very important to me. 🐓 😊

I would have porridge for breakfast and one of our fave cheap meals are baked potatoes, beans, cheese and egg. We aren’t veggie so sometimes add ham to the mix. Another dish I’ve made that’s cheap is(bacon), courgette, pasta frozen peas and cheese using a stock cube in the mix instead of a little bit of white wine which does make it taste better but is optional. But both these dishes can be veggie/ vegan. Someone on you tube just made a risotto dish with fried courgette and peas, she added asparagus on top but if that’s too expensive then u can take it out. There’s a lady called Jack monroe who has a blog and books on cooking in a shoe string and there’s a vegan book option also worth checking out from the library xx

I’m surprised at how much lower food costs are in the UK compared to the US. I am vegan and I eats lots of beans and rice and I’m still not sure that I could eat for $1/ day. Sounds like a fun challenge though. 🤔

I know I was amazed at how much US food prices are. I couldn’t believe it. I now feel quite lucky. I know in every economy some things are more and some less. Things like council tax for our homes, gas central heating and petrol are priced ridiculous here for instance. But I am very glad that our food is reasonably priced 😊

Ps there’s also a book by kath Kelly about how she lived on a pound which is a very good read. I think she’s also tried a year without electricity etc but not written about it though x
