Soil Science, a text by Brady and Weil, p120, explains how operation in wet conditions destroys porosity in soil by compaction. Raper in Journal of Terramechanics, 2005, explains this in more detail, along with recommendations on how to deal with the complicated situation. The Miastrada Dragon concept offers very light weight, which is one of the better options. Even better is to stay out of wet fields, but that is not always an option. To be complete, soil porosity is necessary to make dirt function to support plant growth. Soil without porosity is about the same as a rock. Porosity is a variable though, and not necessarily completely destroyed by running a tractor over it in wet conditions. However, most farmers are very reluctant to work in wet fields.

Film fajny, ale połowiczne rozwiązanie techniczne trakcji jezdnej tego kombajnu. Na takie błocisko trzeba do pary gąsiennic ST 900 Sousy Track z przodu dołożyć jeszcze parę ST 036 z przedniej, kierunkowej pary systemu Sousy Track od ciągników ciężkich. Taki układ poprawi zarówno trakcję jak i stabilność całego kombajnu w czasie pracy, ale pozwoli także ochronić glebę, zaoszczędzić paliwo i sporo czasu.

The tracked wheels, inside the track, impress a compacting pressure repeatedly into the wet dirt. Steering wheels impress a higher pressure that goes deep. The width of the machine means that soil will not be destroyed everywhere in one such wet field operation. However, the effects are lasting so in about five years the compaction will cover much of the surface and the quality of the field could be seriously impaired. See youtube of light weight Miastrada Dragon which minimizes compaction.
