I learned this from a coach of the Special Olympics Equestrian team. If you are using a scissor to shorten mane, (if it not too thick, like on my Haflinger) comb to the other side, dampen it at the roots to keep it there. Cut then comb it back over. You'll get a much more natural edge.

I think that long hair on any horse is fine as long as it doesn’t cause problems for the horse and the owner has the time to keep it relatively clean and manageable. But some horses you see have ridiculously long hair, totally impractical for an average rider to maintain. I would be happier if excessive hair was not a breed ideal. Just like in dogs and cats, long hair is fine when kept well groomed but the animal suffers when neglect sets in. I love his new look and his looking at his legs and feet in amazement was a joy to see!. He must feel the difference feeling the air on his legs and neck as he moves. Seeing him prancing and bucking around the field, he looks like a new horse!. The pattern of his coat looks amazing!😉🥰

You are a very smart girl! Having worked part time for an equine vet for 25 years, I saw a few feathered horses come in for lameness exams. Generally the owners were mortified at the thought of clipping any hair off. Sometimes it seemed like the feathers were more important than the lameness. You made the right decision. He seems very pleased with himself. Not looking very lame in the field.

First video I've watched of yours... By total coincidence I broke my ankle about 8 weeks ago and you are doing so much better than me recovery wise. I'm still in a boot and using one crutch. I'm due an MRI next week because it isn't healing properly. Glad yours was straightforward at least! Can you put closed captioning on your videos pretty please?
@kirstyj92934 жыл бұрын
Bless him his reaction to his legs was the sweetest lol cobs can literally pull off any look !....I love a Traditional Cob to be Traditional but having said that my Traditional is hogged he still has his big fluffy feather's and his long thick forelock which I always keep plaited and obviously a huge bushy tail but he is hogged as his mane is so thick that it causes a lot of ingrown hairs and it really bothers him so I had to bite the bullet and hog him but I must admit I absolutely love him hogged ! Remi looks so gorgeous 😍 he certainly seems to agree with all that showing off lol I just love how they have a mad half an hr without a care in the world like they pay their own bloody vet bills lol I never know wether to laugh or cry when watching mine lol
@RidingRemington4 жыл бұрын

As a cob owner, I urge you to look into CPL in horses as he’s showing the beginning signs, it’s a manageable condition but needs managing to stop it progressing quickly. My little sports cob has it and it hasn’t worsened since the year ago I spotted it and he’s still fine to jump ect 😊 fingers crossed for you!
@RidingRemington4 жыл бұрын
We’ve been doing lots of research into CPL as I suspect he might have it too. Taking his hair off was a blessing as we would be none the wise otherwise as he has never had any issues up until now 😊
@AimeeandJasper4 жыл бұрын
@@RidingRemington there’s a brilliant FB group for CPL horses 😊 would 100000% recommend joining! I mean I love a hogged cob so I’m bias but he looks amazing hogged!
@misschieflolz13014 жыл бұрын
I think aside from personally liking the tail a little shorter.... the only thing I'd add to this is using thinning scissors on the end of the mane. Just gives it a less blunt look at the ends, aside from that, everything really suits him, he even looks taller!
