You should of turn on the APU when you have lost engines that's what I do all the time when I lose engines

Really? The nose doesn't hinder the ability to take off...or really even get to 500 knots. Its to make sure the pilot can see. Its only becomes a problem when your trying to fly faster than 500. Perhaps I'm wrong though...
