The gx21 has a very unique sleeve as well, that's kyosho for ya. I like the white perfex servos they did. That is a unique clutch bell! I like the blue color. It is kinda similar to the TT EK4-S2 clutch bell, but it's the opposite. That one is a metal bell with a composite liner.

Yeah it seems that Kyosho did things a bit different back then. - The clutch bell they designed for that car series is defiantly not “common”. Makes for some fun learning experience within the hobby. I suspect the bell would not hold up to modern engines though. I did end up using a Metal bell when I ran that upgraded Mantis (in a latter Vid) - That’s fun to know that others GX series engines had unique sleeve designs as well. I knew the 12&15 versions were similar. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Thanks Todd 💯

Found my Gx12 today had a quick look inside the bore and compared it to my os max 10fp sleeve and you can definitely see the difference between chrome and nickel plating your right its abc i am suprised its a good runner i had it all the way up to 114 degrees with the hsn two full turns out from closed. If i use it will run it two and a quarter turns out.👍🏻

Great content! This is the first time I see a nitro engine without the 'indicator pin', I just broke that pin in one of my blocks 😥means I still can run that engine without the pin 🤔

Hi and thanks for watchn’. - Oh, you can definitely use the engine without the sleeve indicator pin (some engine don’t come with one). - Look through the exhaust window on the engine block and line up/center up the exhaust port on the sleeve with it. Just make sure the sleeve doesn’t move when you put on/tighten up the head (just give it a double check when you are done). - Hope that helps and I appreciate the sub 💜

Hi man do you think the sleeve has been modified in some way because I know standard gx12 sleeve’s are abn alloy brass & nickel well mine is anyway i have never seen a gx with a abc construction sleeve especially in one of these budget engine’s. I have seen brass used with nickel plated sleeve’s instead of the other material that they normally use with standard nickel plating it can throw you because of the brass.

Thanks for the comment. but no, these sleeves are 100% factory for the GX12-CR. Kyosho also had a similar sleeve/block for the GX15 version engine too (during the same time period). I am sure there may have been other "GX" engines that had different configurations. A lot of manufactures still do that today (or have similar made engines for private label). I have a "GS" Kyosho engine (GS11X) that is ABN and is from the same time period) - The way ABNs are made (still to this day) are with brass sleeve with Nickel plating. These particular sleeves are Brass Chrome (ABC engine) just with a funky way of doing the air mixture flow (funky for todays standards anyway). Some manufactures made AAC engines (AL block, AL Sleeve w/chrome coating). Some vintage engines didn't even have a sleeve. The piston rode in the block bore and once it wore out, you had to toss the whole engine or get a new block (which was not common because the engines were so inexpensive people just got a whole new one). - I didn't mean to write a book lol, just wanted to help in some way. I have never taken my gx apart when compared to my os max 12cvr or Novarossi side exit they both are abc and the pistons have a oil ring if the gx is abc do you know why it doesn’t have an oil ring on the piston.

Yes there was a few bold claims from os back in the 80s there was one that i know of that they advertised as abc in all the magazines my local model shop had these engines new in and took one apart it was in fact abn weather they make a few quality abc style ones fir there magazine and the rest were normal abn for the consumer’s. Maybe you got a abc sleeve in your gx but mine is definitely abn

@@David-069 That is just the way they designed it. The groove adds extra cost to manufacture it that way and I guess they said it wasn't needed. Maybe they had more original pinch designed into the assembly or just want low cost for the engine? Everyone/Every engine and manufacture is different (ex: CVRs are ABC but their sister CV engines are ABN) CVRs have a higher build quality and the price reflects that (they have a captured wrist pin an oil groove, etc for example). The CVs have a lower build quality and have a floating wrist pin, ABN and no oil groove etc.

@@David-069 I remember when HPI/Toki was transitioning their 15Fe/Nitro Star 15s. Some had ABC like the 15SS engines and some had normal ABNs - Both of my GX12-CRs are ABC and have the same sleeve that I showed in the vid ( I have a new spare piston and sleeve coming to be as well). It is possible that Kyosho came out with an engine with the "same" name and had different internals. - A another good example of that is from HPI. The original G3.0 had a standard crank shaft. This was during the time before the T3.0 was made. Later they came out with the updated G and T3.0 engines. The G got the SG crank and the T got the Standard crank. Talk about confusing when trying to first identify an engine and then try to get internal spares lol - That's not the first/only time HPI has made it confusing when ordering parts (ex the whole 1/10 "super" lower chassis plates vs the "Super Super" lower chassis plates. lol
